and here is a pic of the rota slips:http://ebay0.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_729e512ce13d0fcc28b6232e2fd1475d/i-1.JPG

this is coming from he untrained eye, but i dont see any differance........?

i say everyone should buy rotas, because the spoons arent light enough to pay 1000 more than rotas for them!

No i don't see any difference. I think the only difference is that the weight. I heard that replicas are a bit heavier.

yea, 15 inch spoons are 9# and the 14 inch rotas are 12# big whoopty f***ing doo! so spoon is trying to tell us that losing 12 pounds (weight savings with spoons vs. rotas) off the final weight of our car is worth 1000 or more dollars? they can eat my ass!

I dont know the difference but when i was talkin to a guy at a tire store he said that there has to be a 35% (i think) difference between rim styles or there can be a lawsuit.

the big difference between the two are the metals that they're made of...the spoon's are magnesium (I think that's it ;) ) and are 'naturally' black..they're not painted. they also really wont stand up too too well to everyday use (although alot of people use em for everday use) b/c they're relatively soft. they're designed for racing..free of potholes, etc..

but anyway, i love rota's..I've had a set of circuit 8s and a set of subzero's... but the slipstream's are pretty played out these days (IMO)..but are still cool design.

Maybe in real life they would look different.

But as Spoon is in Japan and Rota America I doubt they could sue unless they sue them in Japan or something. I once heard some guy in some crappy country like Ethiopia copyrighted Coka-Cola and there was nothing they could do about it.

As for Spoon and Mugen you pay a lot for the name. I would never buy wheels that cost more than my car.

as far as the 12 pound difference goes...It's more than the loss of weight from the car, it's the rotational inertia loss by a heavier wheel that makes the difference. If the motor has to spin 6 more pounds on the front wheels alone, it may not seem like much but when tenth's a second count, I would go lighter. Imagine adding 6 pounds to you crank pulley, good luck buddy. So, it's not the weight on the vehicle so much in this matter as it is on the rotational mass. WoRd!! ha.

FYI, did you guys know that Rota's originated from the Philippines? I dont know where the rims are being manufactured now, but years ago, Rota's were imported from there. A lot has improved over the years including the strength of the wheel itself. They used to be what taxicabs have back home and whoever cant afford the real deal got ROTA's.
