thermostat

i wanna install a new thermostat... can someone give me a quick run through?...how hard? how long? and ..how?

What year truck? What engine?

How many miles? Original rad? Why the swap out?

2001 rodeo v6 4wd it has 120,000 miles and i am trying to fix a long time problem ive been having help anybody

what is the current issue?

I haven't read of anyone with a +98 with thremostat issues yet?

my mech said that my engine is running way to cold, and that i should change it..? i dont know man this car is drvin me nuts

Surprised me. Thought we were heading for another radiator swap. Isn't the '98+ thermostat housing right up top at the front of the engine like on the '97? It's a pretty easy job. Just get a new gasket and make sure the new t-stat is pointing in the right direction and the top is up. Clean up any old gasket material. A little rtv will help hold the new gasket and t-stat in place when you close the housing back up. Make sure it's seated properly. Do these t-stats fail in the open position?

I thought people did new thermostat's as precautionary measures after so many thousands of miles.

I changed my original at 115k as precautionary measure; you don't want the thermostat failing in the closed position, been there done that on another truck.

on my 2000 you have to take the upper plennum off for sure to get to it(maybe more stuff). it is buried down in the intake manifold valley. i think 98 was the change over year to the new style manifold and throttle body location. while ur there might as well do img's. somebody correct me if i am wrong but 98+ has the newer style 3.2 with the buried thermostat? i will not be replacing mine until i have to. unlike on other vehicles were i do it as a preventative.

2000izusu is correct. On 98+ the t'stat is burried under the intake manifold :banghead: another of those things you have to remove a minimum 3 things to get to :screwy: I havent changed mine, I dont know if you can get to it by removing the throttle body or if the whole intake has to come off for it.

I know I wont be doing mine until I have to (or have to take off the intake for some reason). I will be going with an OEM isuzu one though, this has lasted 94k miles so far, much better than any Stant :puke: or other brand I've used.

I changed my t-stat with my last coolant flush. The OEM lasted well over 100K. I'm curious to see what happened with the original posters t-stat.

So the 98+ sucks to get to the thermostat. It's also buried in the 4 cylinder engine.

If it's buried, I for sure wouldn't fret with it til need be.

I did replace mine with an OEM Isuzu one - wouldn't touch one's on the market with a 10' pole.

It's good to know they last for a long time. The one on my '91 Rodeo didn't even make it to 75k miles before we had to swap it out.

I'll be sure to leave this one alone for well over 100k miles, it only has 30k on it now.
