I really dont know that much about car audio, and what kind of speakers/amp i should buy. I have a 2001 kia optima, and dont want to spend like 2g's but i still want it to bump. At the same time i want something that has good sound quality too, and there's been alot of mixed reviews i have read, and as usual the local shop blow's donkey balls. Ive heard peoiple say good things about rockford fosgate and alpine type r. what do you think i would need to make this car sound good for a resonable price? also any ideas on 7" and below cheap but yet good monitors?

Get a decent set of components up front with an amp. Dont touch your rear speakers at all. As for bass it's up to you. Personally I wouldnt go much bigger than one 12". Anything that is high on the list I gave you will be good. Alpine makes good head units. You need to read up and listen to speakers before you buy anything or you will regret it. Number one rule: Do it right the first time.
PS: You get out what you put in.

I have about $2k worth of equipment and I do very well on the MECA sound quality competition circuit. It's more about what you do with what you actually have. I think I am gonna write up post and sticky it that will be about what to do if you wanna compete.
