I am now in the market for an evo. But do not know exactely which one I want. Friends and people say to get the IX or MR if your going to use it mostly for street. But now that theres a X coming out (in the future) Im sorta leaning towards it. I would like your personal opinions as well as a push in the right direction.

Five spped gear ratio is more suitable for quarter mile.
Six speed gears are good for overall driving. MR gear ratio gives better fuel economy than five speed Evo.
Evo 8 is more integrated interms of suspension.
Evo 9 Mivic Turbo has more torque in low rpm and power in hi rpm than 8.

Is the performance upgrade from the IX to the MR worth the almost $5,000 difference? I'm with the OP considering a Lancer Evo.

Well the MR u get the aluminum roof (which makes it lighter) and u get 6 six gears in stead of 5 I say if u have the money to spend get the MR or wait to see what the evo x has to offer. altough if ur like me and if i had the money to go buy an evo right now, i would instead of waiting for the evo x.......:naughty:

IMHO, the simple answer is no. The upgrades from RS to MR are mostly not track performance related.
If you are looking for the best track performance, go with a striped RS. It's almost 100 lbs lighter then the MR, with the exception of ABS and CF spoiler, it has all the same go fast stuff. You'd only spend more time striping stuff/weight off of a MR. For a track car, weight is the enemy.
If your focus is the street, and if it's within your budget, go with the MR. It has useful feature such as excellent HID low-beam lights, slightly nicer suspension, power door lock & windows, remote, lighter forged wheels, etc.

if you like a good auto x, get the 9,10 for street usage and potential, 8. i love the 8 for it is the only evo that has the option of sunroof! but also i know a guy who ran a 11.8 stock w/ a few tweaks here and there so i encourage the 8
