hey.. i need some help....
- Recently my car started pumping out a lot of smoke.
- I also failed emissions testing for extremely high NOx and high CO and HC readings.
- I can't tell if it is blue or white smoke coming out of the exhaust. It doesnt look like there is any oil in my coolant, so i dont think it is the head gasket.
- There is also water coming from my muffler. It is dripping from the edge of the muffler and out the end of the tailpipe.
Does anyone know what could cause high emissions and a lot of smoke from the exhaust?
I know it might be the piston rings, but could there be something else?
Thanks!
Chris

The high NOx readings can come from a clogged/bad cat converter or EGR valve. The high HC can be caused by the NOx readings. Try a tune-up, plugs, wires, PCV valve first, pull off your EGR tube and valve and clean them up. When was the last time you changed the oil? It can help also.

Also if you are burning oil, then high cylinder temps and bad emissions are possible side effects.

i just changed my oil and i already cleaned out my egr valve and tube.. and i just got a new EET for the egr valve. The pcv valve i checked and it seems like its doing fine. And i just put new spark plugs in. I also flushed my engine with engine flush before putting in new oil.
Any other suggestions?

If you changed the plugs with stock copper Champions, then you should be good to go.

there isnt any oil in your coolant , but how about coolant in your oil ? pull the tube after a few miles and see , it wont take long to show even after an oil change , if your oil looks like chocolate milk .... problems

Oil in coolant or coolant in oil ins't the only way to determine a bag HG. Thw white smoke is an indicator, but if it's blue then yor burning oil. May need to check your valve seals.

typo ? or did you check your oil for coolant ?
if you have white smoke you have coolant burning in your combustion chamber , blue you have oil burning , you can pull a plug and bring it into a reputable parts store and they can tell you what you are burning if anything.
