I read the instructions about the oil pan gasket replacement for a V6 Camaro. I'm really scared. They said to raise the engine a little bit and remove the engine mount.
I do not have a hoist.:banghead:
Anyone did this before?

get under your car and see if you can acess the pan..if you can, no need to hoist.. if theres braces under it..you do probably have to pull the engine

Yes. You have to lift the engine up about ~3" in order for the pan to clear the crank throws when you take it off. Make sure you have clearance all around the engine before you do this too - check for clearance at the distributor etc. It's not as bad as it sounds - take the through-bolts off each mount, lift engine (you can use a floor jack with a block of wood on the oil pan sump, you don't need a hoist). Place a 2x4 block between each car and engine mount, with the 4" side (actually 3.5") being the dimension between the two halves of the mount.

Thanks a lot.
You said I can use a floor jack with a block of wood on the oil pan sump. But how can I take the oil pan off, if the engine is raised via the oil pan?

Then you rmay remove the the jack.

Got you. Thanks.
But will the engine fall off when I remove the jack without the mount? When I raise the engine up and down like that, will it hurt the connection with the transmission?

Oh, didn't notice that the remove the trans mount bolts was missing from his instruction. But the point here is you set the motor down with the wood block s in between the motor half the mount and the "frame"rail side of the mount and that takes the place of the jack. I prefer a 4 X 4 myself, may require some shaving.

Appreciate!
Below are two steps mentioned in the instructions by Autozone. I can not understand why is it necessary to do these.
Remove the alternator.
Remove the ignition coil.

I think it meant disconnect the coil as a safety precation :dunno:
Some models have clearence issues with the accesories. That may be where the alt. comes in to play, but I don't htink you should have any problems, I've never removed one for lifting the motor up.

I see.
My car's previous owner must think he was driving a Hummer. I saw a huge dent on the oil pan sump. Hope I won't crash the oil pan by supporting the engine from below.
