accord door

So, i just bought a 1992 accord sedan. There are only a few tiny problems with it. one is that the driver's side door is shown as ajar if you don't slam it, then once you get it to show as closed it'll go back to ajar in a few minutes. this means i can't have the overhead light on auto and the door light might come on during the night and drain my battery.
does anyone know what this might be? i'm pretty sure it's something small like some worn donw electrical connections or something, if it requires soldering i can do it myself (i've done alot of electrical soldering). i don't want to take it to a mechanic because it's not a big problem so if it's something really complicated i might just disable it and have it always shown as closed.

If its anything like the Civic and the Prelude, there is a little switch in the frame near the door catch.
Its a slide, and often they get a little rusty, and so don't slip properly.
Its only help in by one screw, and is very easy to remove, clean up, and put back in.
I can do it all in a couple of minutes.

So are you asking how to adjust the door latch? Or how to fix the light switch?

so it's not that the switch wasn't moving, it just wasn't carrying a current between the two metal plates. i decided rather than clean it off (i know, i'm lazy) i'd just take it off. i don't need it now and if i eventually do need it for an alarm system or something i'll just put it back on (i'll keep in somewhere that i can get it when i need it, either than or i'll get it from a scrap yard for like a dollar)

Or you could take to it with a bit of sand paper and clean it up :)

I was thinking of doing that but decided that i'd rather sit on my ass in front of my computer and talk about not doing it lol. i might get around to doing it eventually but right now i'm fine with that.

i ended up fixing it, the problem wasn't the contacts, it's that the door wasn't pushing the switch far enough back so i put a cork stopper on it (a small one) and it works. besides that i picked up another switch from a scrapyard just in case. there's a funny story about that.
So i took the cruise control buttons from an accord (i'm missing one of mine), a door switch, and a gas door spring (missing mine) the guy charged me $10 saying "oh you took those off of a steering column? well that means it's useless now" "how much do you want for them?" "10 bucks"
then i got home, they were a year too old, they changed the switches in '92 i guess, anyways i brought them back. "they didn't fit" "really?" "yeah" "ok here's your money" "do you want them back?" "no just throw them out"
wtf, they make the steering column useless but when i offer them back they don't want them.

You need to spend more time around wreckers, they have business model only they can understand.
If your door is not closing the switch properly, then it sounds like its dropped in the hinges.
You might find it dosn't close as easily as it once did either, or it drops when you open it?
If so you need to adjust the hinge's, which on your car I think, adjust on the frame.
Its just a matter of lossening of the securing bolts (don't remove them) then proping the door up to the right position and retightening the bolts.
It might take a few trys, but if your careful, and make only very small adjustments you should be able to do it.

I wouldn't be able to compare how easily it closes becuase i bought it on monday lol. the funny thing is that the water pump broke tuesday night. we bought it from our mechanic so we're going to make sure that we don't pay full price for the replacement (something like free labour).
but i'll have a look at the bolts, thanks for the info.
