Hey guys, I am having a problem with a car I recently accquired. Since I got the car the check engine light has been on. When I start the car if I let it idle it usually stalls, and it just about always stalls when I am going in reverse right after starting the car. Other than the initial stalling, the car runs great when it is on the road, just getting it on the road is the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Um, maybe the code may help us determine the problem?

How is the idle? Is it idling stable, or sounding like a miss? Can you let it idle and poke around under the hood listening for a vacuum leak? Thats almost what it sounds like to me.

ive had this problem when i first started driving my 92 lumina 3.1L. it had been sitting in storage for a year. i bought some STP fuel injector cleaner and used it on my car and ever since then its been running very smoothly. i also replaced the starter and changed the oil and air filter. after that the check engine light has not come on. try the fuel injector cleaner though. its cheap and even if it doesent cure the problem. its good for your car.

its only good if it is mixed according to the directions. If not, it can actuallt harm the fuel injectors because of the fact the coil windings are actually cooled by the gas flowing by, and if the injector cleaner isnt mixed correctly, it can eat away at the coating of the coil windings and short out the whole fuel injector.

I agree with Max, get the codes pulled and posted so we know why the CEL is on. Whatever it is would most likely be the stalling issue.
