Any one think that i should purchase a 1991 toyota MR2 turbo with 79000 miles for 7500? Blue book says that its worth 5100, and they guy says hes put lots of work into fixing it....breaks, tune up, timing belt ect. Anyways, i just sold my civic and im lookin for a nice car, most likely a civic again, but if I can talk this guy down a bit, I may get it. What do yall think?? Stick with Hondas or go Toyota?

if it's stock, give him no more than book, you can always find one better and cheaper, general rule of thumb. now if he had some major modding with nice parts, then it may be worth it. esides, that's a lot of miles on a turbo car, brakes and tune-up should be the least of your worries if you are buying one with that many miles

check the parts for genuine marks see if he actually has what he says
If not you can easily find a cheaper one :D

Good choice, but I wouldn't $2000 over book for a car thats stock. If it's not stock then it would depend on the mods. This guy needs to get real, that may be good mileage but he won't get that much for a stock MR2.

i own(ed) a dealership. modded cars ALWAYS go for way less then stock cars. would you rather buy a car w/no mods or one thats heavily modded w/1000 miles engine life left. let him know it's modded and it's not worth blue book. and don't ever go by blue book, go by black book (NADA) value.

ive always wanted a mr2 turbo, never could find one, so i settled with the del sol instead. you cant beat 200 hp in a car that light, plus the mid-engine rear-wheel drive. you should be able to talk him down at least to 6500-6900. use the fact that a car that old will need maintenance done soon and get a discount from him. good luck anyways.

That's a dealership. A dealership does that so that they don't have to pay more money.
But in real life, actual value of the car is more if it's modded then its worth more than a stock car. Because the car is better than stock.
bottom line don't mess around with this focker. Toyota is lame unless we are talking Supra's(maybe Celica's).
Bottom line..........
GET ANOTHER KICKASS CIVIC!!!!!!

modded cars costing less at a dealer ship i didnt know that they cost less cause when i went car shopping they added like three thousand bucks for some rims like 250 for a cheap generic intake and like 750 for a dc exhaust no header. well know that i know modded cars should go for less im going to go to this place called vj's they sell modified cars
they have a civic si i/h/e pulleys(including crank shaft pully) cam gears and intake manifold with over sized throattle body for like 16900 im gonna try and talk them down if possible they have a Supra tt *drewl* but it has alot of miles and cost to much. they have some preludes focus and gsr and like two type r so im going to check it out since i blew my tranny out again lol(check my other post )

i apologize, maybe i should add a little bit to my comment that they are worth less.
modded cars are worth less to dealerships for the simple reason that most buyers are not looking for modded cars. if you are most people out there, u want a car thats in good condition. modded cars are abused, pushed hard, and just not as attractive to most of the public. when a dealership buys a car they don't care if it's pretty or not, they want to have a quick turnaround on it (sell it quick) as long as that car is in their lot, it's taking up space which equals overhead costs. a non modded car has a bigger buying market so it will sell faster and usually has less problems. if you were looking for a car would you buy a supra from a grandma-type or from a boy racer type? and if the dealership specializes in modded cars then they'll buy them. but my advice was to offer him less for the simple fact that most of the market would pay LESS for a car thats modded :)

not only that, but when a car is stock its built at the factory.. or at least at some reputable shop.
when an engine is heavily modded/built, you CANT be sure about how well the work was done.
