Hi, I am looking at possibly purchasing a 2007 Tiburon, I have just recently took at 2006 SE 4 speed auto for a test drive. I am curious to find out if anyone can tell me about any problems that they may have had with their Tiburons. I really like the car but i am torn between it and the 2007 Eclipse, can anyone please help me. I have heard of some problems with the Tiburon but i am not to sure if they are fact or fiction. Thanks.

The 2007 Tib is getting another facelift, front and rear, so it will look quite a bit different than the 2006 you drove. Interior also has quite a few changes as well. Unfortunately, I don't know much of anything about the new Eclipse. I used to have an '02, but I've never paid much attention to the new ones. My opinion, the new Eclipse is ugly, and the Tib looks a ton better. Here are a few pics of the 2007 Tib if you haven't seen them yet.

^^^^ I agree completely. Plus, if you are going for performance, the Eclipse is much pricier in V6 form (and yes a little quicker) than the Tib.

I looked at the '06 Eclipse (though I didn't drive one) before buying my Tib. For me it wasn't worth the money. Plus it's 6 inches longer, 3 inches wider, and doesn't have any more room than the Tib. And that huge butt....

I don't have that much information on the 07' Tiburon other than pictures of it, but are you sure that even the V6 version of the new Eclipse is quicker than the new Tiburon will be? It just seems unlikely due to the very heavy weight of the Eclipse. I could be wrong. Anyway, I think either way, chicks will dig both cars, but if your going for speed, eclipses have sucked ever since the 3rd gen came out.

The '07 Tib powertrain wise is unchanged from '06. Still the 2.7L. The new Eclipse GT has something like 260hp. It is faster than the Tib. You won't see a big change in the motor until the 2009 model comes out, if they even still call it a Tiburon. I was in Korea a few weeks ago with Hyundai, and found out what the '09 will look like, and the engine options. However, I can/will not say. But, it will be a bad ass car.

lowsonoma: Do you expect me to talk?
Me: No Mr.Nance, I expect you to.....actually, yes, I do.

I can't wait to see the 09 Tib! Here's hoping they show it at the next Detroit Auto Show!

I've had a few minor problems on my 03.

1. Driver side window motor-replaced 3 times
2. Driver side seat belt socket-replaced 1 time
3. Driver side door lock acuator-replaced 1 time.

I've done heavy modding and I have no engine problems. I love the car, and I'll probably buy another Hyundai when I'm ready.

atleast the rear is the easy one to doI don't think so. front sawy bar is not necessary to change on the GK. I causes over steer. We are also doing rear control arms.

Ive had a few problems, but they havent really caused much for headaches.

Ive always had an oil leak on my tib -- at the drain plug and at the filter. This is occurring whether i change it or dealer does -- and they dont seem intent on fixing it, probably because from oil change-to-oil change, im only down like... half a quart, if that. So its not a huge problem.

Other'n that, I have a 4-speed auto, but i love the Shiftronic (or whatever they call it). Because of that, i had problems with 3rd gear for like 6 months where when it would go into 3rd, it would hit. When i say hit, i mean it rattled the whole car. It wasnt a huge concern till my engine hit 8000 RPM on the highway one day.

I brought it into the dealer, and they said it "Came out of calibration", and they said it was due to the chip that controls it... they loaded up the '06 version of the system, and its fine now... and it has a hair more torque.

All-in-all, Ive seen the eclipse's, and if youve seen the Bugatti Veyron, the backend looks kinda the same. What im annoyed by on the eclipse is:
1) the sheer mass/size of it
2) single exhaust
3) The way the windows are split. On the tibs, you have the lil window in back, and on the eclipse... its got 3 sections, and it looks ugly as hell. If you test drive one, youll see what i mean.

i go to the place to get the end link for the sway bar and the guy calls tein up to find out how much it will be and they tell the guy that they dont make them for the tib and i'm like then how the hell did i get them...so it looks like i'll have to figure something else out
maybe all just get a rod and thread the ends an buy a new knuckle that would solve my problem

Rickna
09-28-2006, 06:21 PM
Something you might try. Get stock end links, cut the rod out between the swivels, weld in a heavier bar. Or make your own turnbuckle and weld it to the swivels. Dang, I miss my machine shop!

BigTDawg
09-29-2006, 10:22 AM
could try that also i still have some time to figure it out
