Today while talking to my parents about getting a rocket they told me that since I'm going to college and am basically going to be poor I should have something more reliable to drive. Usually I hate these conversations because I always end up with only being able to choose what they want. This time they said if I can sell the talon for at least $5k I can keep $1k and put it toward a rocket and the rest with help from them will go toward a new car. At first I didnt know what to think, on one hand I could get a nice bike and a reliable car but on the other I couldnt think of anything that I could afford that could replace the talon in looks and speed. Well while waiting for my parents to look at vans at the chevy dealer I spotted a 06 cobalt ss supercharged and omg is that sext. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/joemarshall/chevrolet-cobalt-ss-07.jpg that is the one I test drove. My parents even approved of it. So its looking like the talon is going to be put up for sale and me getting a new car and a rocket. Dont get me wrong, I'm still a dsm'r but I have to take a break. I suggested to thor that we buy in one a 1g track car so who knows what will happen

It sucks that you want to sell the talon. Are you going to fix it first or sell it as-is? I'm not really into the cobalts myself but the SS is ok. I can understand you needing something more reliable. My 2nd car is going to be a Honda. What kinda bike you lookin at? Also if you part out the talon I may be interested in some stuff.

I'm fixing it this week and selling a running car. As for a bike I'm leaning toward either a newer R1 or a gsx-r 1000

Good choice for bikes. Jigster 1000 or R1...hard decision. Its a toss-up.

I am in the same boat as Scott. My mom said a rocket would be ok except I have two cars. Never thought about getting rid of the Talon. A Rocket would be just as fun to drive as a DSM and wayyyy less break downs. I dont know yet, but I might finish the part out of my DSM and sell the shit off of it and put it towards a rocket. I dont know, I dont think I want a 1000 right off, but I sure as hell dont want to get like a 400 or whatever. I think I am going to get a YZF R6 for starters. I dont know, I dont really care what brand it is as long as it looks cool :icon16:.

I know alot of guys that have been in your situation(s). Think about it though, how often can you ride the rocket? Only when it's nice. Not in the winter, not in the rain, not in the cold. I have a buddy that just sold one after a year because he never rode it. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking at one too, but it's just not practical at the moment, for me anyways.

Thats true. The Talon is a non-winter car anyway, I wouldnt be driving the Talon any more seasons than I would a rocket. The Talon has no AC so thats nothing different than the rocket. Its kind of a toss up, I love my DSM and I think I am going to go through with the rebuild, but if it blows up again, its gone.

See I love the talon but not only will I have a rocket but a new car so I think I'll get the best of both worlds

Yeah, R1 FTW. They are the sexiest bikes out there. I would get an older and smaller bike first though until you learn how to ride better. A newer 1000 would spell death for most new riders (me). I am going for like a CBR600RR from the late 90's. They still look cool but they are a little less fast.

You know what we should do, Scott, is drop a 4g63 in a rocket. Now that would be fucking insane. Find some like 12:1 pistons, titanium springs and retainers, etc and slap er on a modified r1 chassis. Then a fuckin 50 trim and a 100 shot. Can you say broken bones?

I think I'm going to start with a 600 unless I can get a hell of a deal on something bigger

that's too big.

a 600 can still throw you off the bike with a twitch of a finger, trust me

please get something like a 250 or similar, I have lost too many friends because they chose to a bike that was "cool" to be their first bike. Your life is more important

How much are you thinking about letting the talon go for?

If I am to get one I'll definetly start out small... Theres no point in learning on the most powerful thing you can get your hands on. None of us started out with fully built dsms here. :icon16:

I too have seen too many people die on their bikes within the last month. Most have been freak accidents, but still. It makes me a little nervous to even consider getting one still.
