i have a 2002 taurus and i am looking to replace the fuel filter. Is it hard to do? meaning could i do it in my garage w/o having to pay someone to do it, which is what im trying to avoid. Is it just a pop out pop in type of deal or how do i do it? Im also wondering about replacing my spark plugs and possibly o2 sensor...but probably not cuz thats:2cents: :2cents: also, has anyone installed a drop in or cone K&N filter on their taurus? im strongly thinking about doin it. also wondering about my car starting, it sometimes will stutter and either bog and start or bog and die, has anyone had a problem like this? Its starting to happen more and more and is starting to make me mad, Ive tryd holding the key over longer/shorter but it doesnt seem to help, any help is great
thanks, LR

The fuel filter is an in line cannister on the fuel line located approximately under the right rear passenger door. Is a relatively simple chore and should be changed every 30,000 miles. You can access it easier if you lift that section of the vehicle a few inches. Be extra careful with the plastic/nylon retainer clips because they are expensive to replace and I've found that only the ones obtained from Ford fit properly. Also note that the front and rear clips are different sizes.
A Fram or similar air filter is satisfactory for ordinary vehicle use.

The long/hard start may be an IAC (idle air control) issue. Try starting the car with the gas pedal slightly down. If that works, then clean or replace the IAC.

If you have an 02 Taurus, it would be a good idea to change the fuel filter anyway. I'd buy new Ford R clips, I'm notsure what size, but get the pack of like six that are two different sizes ... black and white I believe ... but they are the right size. Just pay attention to which color goes on which line (fuel in, fuel out and evap).

BEFORE you even think about touching it, go in the trunk and disconnect the fuel switch, it's just a little connector and it's not that hard to get the wires out of the bottom (don't rip them out). Once it's disconnected, turn the car over to get any fuel pressure out.
