why do you need new heads? what's wrong with your tt heads? just replace all your valves (or just the valves that are bent). but it would be a good idea to test your head to see if its level, flat and not warped.
if you want some tt heads, PM HotShot8792 (or is it 8972...i forget). he has an extra set. he's installing some DR heads, so i bet he could part with his stock heads.

shit that is suchs.i changed my timing belt 15000 miles ago, but stupid mechanic didn't changed the tensioner so the timing belt got loos.:shakehead i might get a new engine. the mechanic is asking $1500 labor to just replace the heads.

ok literally, last time i checked 3si, you didn't know your mechanic did anything wrong. One person suggested that your mechanic didn't replace your tensioner, and you are all of a sudden you're now sure that the "stupid mechanic didn't changed teh tensioner so the timing belt got loos." Do you have any proof? Was this the same idiot who said mbc's ruin turbos? Was this the same guy who said your valves "might bent" ?
Tip #1 get your car to somebody who has worked on our cars before, and isn't a complete idiot. And i say this, not to be a prick, but to be serious. You keep saying "i think" or "he thinks" or "possibly". If you have a mechanic with half a brain, he should be able to tell whether your pistons are damaged, and whether your valves are damaged. You shouldn't have to ask us "i think"...what should I do...? questions.
In all honesty, do you even know if your valves are damaged???? Do you know how many? Are you trusting the same idiot who didn't replace your tensioner in the first place?? Are you seeing where I'm going with this??
Seriously,
a) find a new mechanic. And i mean this! Because either he is screwing you, or you are accussing him of stuff, eitehr way, you aren't gonna get good service, so find a new one. Perferably one who knows something about our cars.
b) FIND A NEW MECHANIC! You can buy heads from somebody, but why waste your money, if you are paying the same incompetant person to replace parts, after its his own fault the damage was done...

i agree with Igovert. don't take the advice of ppl on here or 3si to find out if your valves are bent and/or if your heads are screwed up. that's quite a big and expensive ordeal to go through, so you wanna make sure.
honestly, if you own a 3S, i think you should be able (or at least know HOW) to do a timing belt service. if you don't feel confident in your own ability, have someone help. its really not that hard. to remove the heads, you'll need to first remove the timing belt. basically remove the belt from the camshaft sprockets, then the heads w/ camshafts can be removed. then you can check your valves and pistons. however, i'm sure there's another way to check your valves, so PM a known mechanic on 3si and ask. quit making threads with "could it be", "maybe bent valves", "o really its that bad" and get to the root of the problem. some good mechanics over there i know of are "AdamVR4" and "ShowKiller".
or you just need to find a new local mechanic you can trust.
-->and as far as the timing belt going loose, the car getting out of time, and won't start...well that's not a definite sign that your valves are bent. i was working on a local guy's 92 3000 the other week with another 3S guy, and his timing was off. we didn't have time to buy another timing tensioner, so we just re-used his old one since it was only 1,000 miles old. simply put his car back in time by aligning the cams and the crank, put the belt on, set the tensioner, and the car fired right up!
so to all those nay-sayers and people that can diagnose your car over the internet, just do it right and get someone that knows these cars to work on it. this is a great opportunity for YOU to learn more about your car. so make the best of it. if you have spare time or can do w/o your car, then i would take the time to learn about your car by watching someone else work on it, or by working in it with someone else. if not, (and we can't stress this enough) find another mechanic. these engines are critical as far as timing goes with the DOHC and the timing tensioner. its not a hard system, but its easy to screw up and i've seen mechanics screw it up many times.

:1: I also agree.. the best way to lean about cars or your engine is to do it all yourself but have someone who knows what to do there to double check your work and help you out when you get stuck... this is they best way to learn imo... (Thank you Rich!)... < my back up mech... lol none of my cars would have been running without him but I've also learned enough now to sometime not need him.:sunglasse

last time i check the car ,i could turn the intake came gear by hand really easy.is shows the valves are bad and the lifter might been damaged too.

what?!@#$ :nono:
which intake cam did you turn? front or rear? were you turning the intake cam by itself? was the belt on or off? who in the world told you to do this?
whoopdee-freakin-doo, its easy to turn a camshaft. did you know that since our camshafts are under soo much tension from their cam lobe profile and the valve springs, that the cams can turn quite easily at a certain point in one direction? its actually quite like a violent snap when they turn, watch out fingers!
have you checked to see if your timing marks are aligned/are in-time?

Definitely watch out fingers. A friend of mine whos car I was working on thought he was helping by nudging the front exhaust cam back as it was off by about half a tooth. Before I could say "eric watch your fingers" it happened. It snapped around and caught his index and middle finger. I had to grab the wrech and turn it back to get him out. He said his fingers are still messed up to this day.

Yeah, I would really look at the head before deciding whether they need to be replaced...
I was in the same situation with my car (DOHC NA) where the timing belt tensioner nuts didn't have locktite and/or torqued down properly and worked it's way loose... Skipped in the timing belt (I was on a roadtrip) and tore the belt up... I was going 120 km/h when the timing belt let loose.
I did actually have the work done at the dealership so they paid to repair the engine at another dealership in the town I was in (the other dealership took the orginal dealership to the cleaners which was rather funny).
Anyways the both heads were salvagable... Only one of the heads needed to be re-seated (they re-seated all 12 valves on one side and replaced all 24 valves... among other things it was why I was snickering when I saw the invoice they gave the other dealer).
So I would take a look before forking out cash to replace parts (unless you really want new parts...)
