I have a 1991 tracker 4x4 auto. I keep looking for the mystery switch under the dash but can't find it. Now tracker has a won't start but clicks are coming from under the dash. It shut off a couple of times and started up but ran very poorly. If I hit the throtle it boged down. I took out the ecm and am trying to decide if I should go to the junk yards or buy rebuilt one. Does anyone have any ideas.

First, dont trust a junkyard ECM for any Tracker between 1990 and 1995. These were all substandard units and burned out at about 50,000 miles.
Second, search this forum for ECM's. There are a number of members who can help you find a rebuilder for your ECM. Most will test it before they work on it to make sure that it is bad.
Third, the 91's don't have the magic switch under the dash. That's 94 and up. I know, I have torn out the dash on my '92 several times.
Fourth, your CEL can be lit up by a number of things. Go to your local big chain parts store, most will lend you a code reader. Pull the codes and post back your findings.
Good luck.

Don't you have to have a 96 or newer to be able to connect a code reader to it to pull trouble codes? That bwould be an OBD2 system, started in 96. Ed

I have the book for my 94 tracker and it "claims" that the 1995 plus are the only ones you can use the handheld computers on to diagnose the problems..
with 94 and older you have to jumper the small plug(ECM??) near the battery and read the code that the check engine light flashes and look it up in the book.

my husband has a 91 tracker it's clicking under the dash too, that's the relay switches, when ur computer starts to go out, they start clicking, if u turn ur key over till it stops clicking, then it will start, once u get it to start it will run fine, ours boggs down too, we was told it was either the fuel pump, or the computer, well we've changed the fuel pump which was 220.00, and that's not it, we've changed the tps, iac, put new plugs, wires, distributor cap, oxygen sensor, and the check engine light still, no one can get into the computer to get any codes, so now it's the computer gonna be replace we've been quoted 350.00 for that. good luck patti

I have a problem with my 1990 geo tracker starting. When i push start it, it starts fine for a little while unless i stall it. I found a ground wire leading to the bottom portion of the engine but it was off. I cant find where it goes. Its the longer ground wire. My check engine light is on, but i took it to a mechanic and they said when it the milage rolls over it comes on untill you get certain things checked.

if you take off the speaker on the drivers side that switch is easier to get to but that wont explain the problems

a ground just needs to go to a clean metal part of the frame u can put it were ever u want and gm installed into the computer on trackers a switch that sets the "check engine light" at certain milage points to have costomers come in for checks there is a switch you can find behind the speaker on the drivers side just dig around untill you find it
