My amp is draining my battery. I have been told that my stereo amp is too big for my battery and is not letting it recharge. What alternatives do I have other than removing the amp?:banghead:

Get a capacitor Its like a mini battery that the engine charges . Or get another battery for your amps .

Really depends. It can be a mix of things draining it.

1)Check to make sure your battery is good to begin with.

2)Check your alternator to see that it is holding a charge.

3)Check all of your wires to make sure that nothing is out of whack.

Just remember that a stock battery isnt made to take the abuse abig amp will put out. Think about upgrading to an Optima with or without using a capacitator.

optima or any deep cycle would be good.

Might want to read some audio forums to learn the real deal with capacitors.
A very simple thing to think about....
Your electrical setup is having trouble running what you already have there....why would you add something else that needs to be powered/charged?

Youd be better off upgrading the big three, and then looking at a new battery, or high output alt.

caps dont need to be charged, they just hold a charge for peaks of high wattage.

I am not starting the debate over if they are worth it or not because for some systems the are NOT worth it, but in others they are. There is alot of high end systems that run 2 or more caps. So they do serve a purpose, just not for the average guys that only push less than 300 watts or so.

I do agree though, I stated eariler that he should check and upgrade the Battery, Alt, and also look into the wires. And if nessesary go with a cap.

Bigger alternator (140 or better) Red or Yellow top battery, 1 gauge wire from alt to battery, battery to frame

Well a 1 farad capacitor can hold an extremely large charge and is the reason most use it for car stereos. Granted it may take a while to actually charge it up, the benefits of having one are very good. Your car is able to get still charge it with less strain than if you just ran off of the battery itself.

But I agreee, you need a better battery first.

As a thought... are you sure that when you shut your system down, that everything is actually turning off? ie. the amp trigger wire might not be shutting off the amp etc.

Is the amp drawing power when the stereo is turned off?

I dont think it would matter. The amp draws noticable power when its getting pushed, hard. if he shuts of the car hes not using any of the amps power. The car is just keeping the amp on, Like leaving the lights on almost. that should result in a dead battery, when he starts it up. He says its draining it, assuming that is when its running and is pushing his amp. I have 2 amps in mine and i have no dimming at all. what just about everyone says on here, Get a Cap and a better battery. If ur using a HUGE amp, then you deff want to pop for a better alt.

What set up are you running?
