ive been driving my car as of late, it usually sits in the garage. but i drove it for a week put like 60 miles on it or so and it ran great and boosted good when i needed it. now i drive this car like an old person cause i need it to last me a while. it has a brand new head and oem head gasket head studs you know all that jazz its built well. now i was working on some stuff like changin my transer and diff fluid and checking all my clamps today and when i started it white smoke was pouring out my exhaust and the idle was choppy like a sick set of cams now the smoke was also coming from what looked like my valve cover. does anyone have any idea what would cause this i checked all my fluids radiator is full the oil looks brand new and there isnt a single leak anywhere.

looks like your burning oil into your cylinder (s). Could be valve stems, head gasket.

Does it go away after a while or is it constant white smoke?

i havent ran it for more than like 2 minutes but it stays it shouldnt be my valve stems that head is brand new and so is the head gasket. do you think maybe the head gasket i got isnt strong enough for my car now cause is just oem

Did you just replace the head gasket and it started burning white smoke after that.

If so, then you probably damaged the gasket when you were installing it or you did not torque it correctly.

no i drove it everyday for a week before it even started to smoke. it drove fine the day before no smoke no problems at all and then the next day i started it up and was puffing white smoke

it runs good it starts up and idles fine and it doesnt hesitate and i let it run to see if it would over heat or anything but it doesnt. i thought if my head gasket would go it would run like crap and there would be a leak somewhere and anti freeze in my oil but i dont know.

White smoke is not an oil problem, its a coolant problem.

Did a shop do the work? Take it back to them and tell them to fix their fuck ups. If it was you, did you torque it down properly? Its most likely a head gasket.

Although that's the norm, it's not always true. Depending on where the oil is being burnt, it can product white smoke as well.

well they called me earlier today yes they are open 7 days a week. they said the head gasket is fine there is no fluid in the cylinders or anything like that but the valve cover has a good 6 inch crack in it and thats why there is oil all over my plug wires and the valve cover and all smoking under my hood. i thankfully have another i just got back from powder coating. they are going to stick new ngks and some taylor thundervolts in it for me and see if it still smokes if it does they are going to go into further.

they are not charging me anything other than for the plugs and wires i didnt want oil covered plugs and wires put back in it. i had a cometic head gasket a friend gave me so even if that eventually is the problem its free to

I have a 94 Eclipse 1.8 Sohc it has 97,000 miles on it and the valves clatter like crazy and if I let it sit all day and dont run it..it smokes like a train.
I would try driving it more or perhaps getting a fuel injection cleaning.

my 94 talon 1.8 will clatter every now and then to. it has 170k miles on it and used to smoke pretty good. I use the 10w30 castrol high mileage with a bottle of that stop smoke and a mobil 1 filter. I hear that fram filters are good for makin that clatter sound but i cant back it up. All i know now is that it only makes the sound for a couple minutes when first started up and doesnt smoke anymore.

From what I understand it is pretty easy to break the valve covers on our cars...so just tell the shop to be careful and to make sure and tighten the bolts in the correct order otherwise it will just crack again...my friend is a mechanic at the mitsu dealership here and said it happens all the time...

Ive also heard that the car can smoke if the valves arent set right. But in my oppinion I dont think that would hurt shit

well im glad u just posted this cuz just the other day i re-did the clutch on my car, also fixed two boost leaks which were in the ic bands...i drove it home about 30 miles and then let it sit for a week and a half or so i took it out for a drive and i didnt even get out of 1st gear at about 4,500 hundred RPM's my car pops then just starts to fulter and runs real bad, smoke pouring out of the exhaust and it wouldnt go past 2,300 rpms it was smoking under the hood like from under the exhaust mainfold i couldnt see where it was coming from...would that be my head gasket i checked my fluids they were all good...help please.

My brother has been using my email so I dont know about what he has been posting on here ,but there may be a possibility that you have a loose hose or perhaps the car is over boosting. My car smokes mostly in the morning and the valves clatter really bad I am kinda spoofed on what it is too man sorry.

I read that somewhere in a DSM book, but it may not be true.I mean bad spark plugs, wires,or clogged fuil filter can do it as well. There are tons of things lol.I would take it somwhere and have a system check ran on it.
