backfiring or shooting fire?

Sometimes when I'm really getting on it, at maybe 75-80% throttle, the car will jerk for a split second and then pop. sometimes a second later in the same gear it will repeat, and then again. I notice this most in 2nd gear. I havnt really paid any attention to the a/f guage, so i dont know if it starts running rich and dumping fuel in, then blowing fire out the exhaust. I also havnt really got on it at WOT. i just got it tuned, and before that it would really shoot fire, my friend got it on video. now it doesnt do it too much, but im just wondering what that is? it would be nice to have a good smooth rev up to 6-7k rpms and then shift, and continue the smoothness, without any backfire/flames/whatever. any ideas? could this be injector/spark plug/wire problem? if its injectors, im loooking for 550's annnnyyybooodddddyyy??? :grinyes:

yo man I'm pretty sure you should check your plug gaps. ,028 IIRC. But if you just got it tuned I thought they woulda done that for you so I dunno?

Do you have a logger? What are you running for boost on that turbo? You're probably maxing out the stockers and knocking like crazy. Also check the plug gap like stevie said.

The guy street tuned it, and set the boost to 16 psi. i put new plugs in a week before he tuned it, but he said they would probably already be fouled up again, and whnen he was done, i should change them, which might explain why when he drove it, floored it, got on it, everything, it drove fine, then a few days later the problem back. i put bpr7es with the .028 gap.

what is "iirc"?

If i remember correctly, if i recall correctly, etc.

Change the plugs and see if it changes anything.

Well I just got ngk plugs and wires from advance auto. I hope this fixes the problem.

aside from this stutter problem, the car has been idling like SHIIIEEEEET. If I give it a constant gas to keep it at 1200 or so rpms, it still stutters real bad. when I drive, it stutters as im driving. Same thing whether the engine is cold or hot. One thing I dont understand though is that its intermittent. One day, it could be idling bad, almost stalling out, all that bad stuff, and then the next day it will idle fine. Sometimes I'll start it up and it idles bad, then ill start it up an hour later or so after i drive it and it idles good, and vice versa. the air/fuel gauge almost always shows it buried in the lean, sometimes just a faint light, its so lean. the egt gets higher than usual and stays up there longer. I'm running a +12 on the safc(+16 at 1000 rpms, then 12 the rest of the way, all this on "low-throttle" setting, stock injectors and 16psi). Why would the car run lean and crappy one day, and then be running fine and smooth the next? No matter what the car is running like, it still does the backfiring(or whatever) when I'm getting on it.

Also, could this problem have anything to do with what type of oil I use? I just did an oil change about 1 month ago and used quaker state 5w30 full synthetic, and I put a bottle of bars leak oil conditioner in. the car ran pretty good for a while, then back to its crappy tendencies.

thanks for any help

Why Barleak ? those stuff is SHITTY SHIT. Stay away from QS, either go with Mobil 1 10w/30 ( Correct oil weight for out dsm is 10w/30 ), or castrol gtx ( that what I ran on mine, Pureone oil filter or Mitsubishi oil filter.

When the last time you doing tune up ? If not here some recomment maintaint stuff I use.

Oil : Castrol gtx 10w/30( old engine, so it not leak ) or Mobil 1 full syn 10w/30
Oil filter : Oem or pureone
Spark plug: Ngk bpr7ES gap at .028
Spark plug wire: Ngk wire
Fuel fiter: Purelator
Tranny fluid: Pennzoil sycromesh ( you ran either run stray, or mix 1 quart of Redline Heavy duty shockproof and the rest is Pennzoil )
Take your TB out complete, and clean out the TB and Manifold, replace TB and elbow gasket if it damage ).
Do boost leak test.
Put in bottle of fulse injector if you can.

Those is what I did when Im doing my oil change, accept fulse filter, and tranny fluid, and NGK wire.

About your Idle, clean out the TB and Manifold, or your ISC ( IAC ) bad.
