Im currently looking for as drag car. i found 2 diffrent mustangs but im lookin for the cheapest one i can get, due to limited income. what im really asking is for a beginner in drag would a 4 cyllinder be any good to modify? i can get a v-8 in the same car for about $1000.00 more. so would it be worth it,theyre both 1992 and both run. so im just askin is the 4 banger good at all, or should i just forget about it.

the 4cyl is slow as balls stock. but its lighter than almost any mustang youll find which is good.... however it is a good engine for boost. i take it you dont know about the SVO mustang? a lot of people dont but that was a special edition mustang in the '80s and it was a turbo 4cyl. it was faster than the 302's of the time. so the 2.3l 4cyl in the mustang you saw does have good potential for boost. the only problem is that i dont personally know what the differences are between the SVO engine and the normal N/A version. i dont know if there are any, but i assume there are. theres people on here though that can tell you.

Spend the extra money on the V8. If you are on limited income you will more than make that 1000 up trying to make that 4 banger move, than after that I am sure all the other parts are no as strong in the car either.

DEFINATELY GET THE 5.0!!!! Not to mention the better trans., rearend, and suspension and brakes (ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I THOUGHT THE 87-93 5.0'S HAD 4cyl. BRAKES!!).

Also, Stang, you are incorrect about the SVO's being faster than the 5.0's. That is why Ford stopped making the SVO because, they weren't selling enough. The SVO was around $2,000-3,000 more than a 5.0 and the 5.0 was faster. So buyers thought "why should I buy a slower car for more money?". Only people who wanted performance that was close to the 5.0 but better mpg and collectors were the people buying the SVO.

the SVO was lighter with the same power output. people didnt buy it as much because it is a 4cyl and they wanted a v8, its that mentality that killed the SVO. they were very comparable speedwise. the SVO was probably easier to get more out of to since its boosted.
