I'm currently shopping for a 5th Generation prelude.
I came across a 2001 SE that I wished to purchased, but when i scanned the vin number on CARFAX.COM it tells me that the engine is a:
2.2L L4 PFI SOHC 16V
????? SOHC? Isn't this the engine for an accord? because I thought prelud was all DOHC...Could it be a carfax error, or should i suspect there was a swap in the 01' SE prelude.
Thanks any info would help.
And here is the VIN# - JHMBB61741C801241
(note: the 5th last character in the vin # is a Zero)

It def. is an error because all 5th generation Preludes only came DOHC. I highly doubt that someone would want to swap their stock H22 with a F22, which has less power than the H22.

yeah it has less power, but doesn't it have iron sleeves (good for boost), but either way, its gonna be piss slow unless its turbo'd. But pop the hood and look at the engine. it should have DOHC VTEC on it. if it doesn't , give the sales man a DOH-Chop right in his/her throat for disrespecting the Prelude like that. j/k...well not really, but u should pop the hood and look at the engine.

First of all since the 01 prelude never came with a sohc engine, I doubt it has one in there. Second of all, you cannot change the vin number to match your new engine. The vin number on that car would never show any other engine than the dohc 2.2. Carfax people obviously have an error in their system. For future reference, don't check carfax to find what engine you car has in it. Just pop the hood and look. All hondas have an the engine ID stamped in the back of the block. I suggest that before you buy a car that you do check this number on the block. You never know if someone has put a jdm engine in it and you may just pass it up never knowing.
