2004 Passat Information display wrong country/language

I have a 2004 Passat GLX with OnStar. I started it this morning and I noticed that the multifunction display was showing km instead of miles. I also noticed that the OnStar light was red instead of it's usual green color.

I tried to fiddle with the controls for the display, but nothing I did would change it back to USA/English.

I gave up and when I got to work I restarted the car to see if the problem presisted. When it came back on everything was in English/Miles and the OnStar light was green again.

Any ideas why this might happen?
