Coming here for input on a 199 GS. I'd like to know a little about them and if they are good running/long lasting cars. I'm looking at getting one form a local dealership here in my town.

Power everything including sunroof, spoiler, auto, 91k miles, charcoal leather. I havne't went and actually talked to the ppl yet, but i looked on there site, and its priced at $7995. Good or not?

Good cars. That price, hell no... You could buy a GST or GSX for that price and they are much better models... You should be able to pick up a GS for no more than 5k with probably less miles than that on it. If you are looking to spending that kind of money on one though, seriously look into the GST's and GSX's. You won't be disappointed with the power they have.

:werd: 8 grand is ass rapage for a 99 auto GS with 90k. If you are looking for some speed, settle for nothing less than a GSX or TSI AWD. I've heard of people getting decent 2g AWD's for $4000-$6000. Keep in mind, they "tear ass for short cash" - (kjewer1) but they like to break. RS/GS/ESi's are slow but they are a little better gas mileage and reliability wise. My opinion: that car = teh ghey, GSX/TSi AWD = really fast and fun with godly launches and white gooey shit in your pants after doing them :).

KBB has it at lik $8600 from a dealer with all the options that it has.

If i could get them to go under $7k would it be better? Or just not even bother?

If you can't get them down to atleast 5k, walk away. :2cents:

Don't even bother with it. You can find such better deals for that kind of money... Actually, you could probably find a GSX or TSi AWD for 3000-6000 and use the rest of the money you would have spent ont the GS to make it a nice little 300hp 4 banger.

I was in a similar spot as you 2 years ago. Now granted, the car only had 55k on it and it was the anniversary edition. I ended up paying $9k for it from a dealer. If you could get them down to about $6k, I think it would be a decent enough price if you like the car. So far reliability has been excellent....I have only had to replace a door handle and hood release beyond general maintenance. The car runs like a champ...but has no power whatsoever. If you want reliability and gas mileage inside a sexy shell, go for it. If you want any type of power, save your money.

A lot depends on your location. There are seriously NO DSM's in my area within 100 miles. I know of like 2 people that have one, and rarely see them for sale, so take that into consideration when determining what you think it's worth. You may be searching for awhile to find one you like.

it depends on the area you live in (I keep saying this) it is next to impossible to get a gs-t/gs-x around here for that price, you gotta pay bout 10 or 11k for one, and a 99 gs goes for bout 6-7k around here

Enough of this propaganda. If you want it bad enough, you'll travel. :) I wouldnt give them a penny over $5500.

I test drove it today. ANd when it gets to around 3k RPM ther is like a whistle or whining type noise coming from around the belt area. Other than that it drove real smooth and everything worked jsut fine.

Are you sure it wasn't from the exhaust? It seems like all of the GSs that I've ridden in or have heard make a "spool-up" type noise from the exhaust. No biggie, it just gets annoying after awhile.

Anyways, $8k for a 99 GS from a DEALER isn't that bad, I've seen places where some dealers will try get $9k+ for a no where near mint 98 GS. Like everyone else says, if you just like looks and don't really care about power, stick with an RS or GS, but if you like power and looks, then definitely try find a turbo.

And just to make sure, you know that the Eagle Talon is basically the same car with a different back end right? The ESI is the same as a RS/GS, the TSI is the same as a GST (fwd turbo) and the TSI AWD is the same as a GSX (awd turbo).

Was it like a swirling noise or a squeeling noise? Mine has it, but it's the air intake. It even did it a little bit when I had the stock one on there.

more of a sqeeling noise. i'm not going to be getting a new car till next spring anyways. by then my insurance will drop drastically. i guess i'll wait to see what the 2008 cobalts have in store since i was looking at them previously.

thanks for all your help.
