My 01 has a tape deck stereo that is set up for the 6 disk changer, but does not have the hardware. Is the car wired for it? can I just get the changer and install it? should all the wires / connectors be there? I just bought the car, so not really into peelin back trim panels yet, but no obvious wires in the trunk. And if they are there, where in the trunk do they mount them, on one of the sides, or under the package tray?

If your faceplate has the controls, it is just plug and play.

The RCU is located on the drivers side rear wheel well in the trunk.

Peripheral makes adapters that you can plug straight into the tuner box of the Taurus and adapt it to an Alpine changer. It'll be around 400 bucks, but that's probably cheaper than buying a brand new factory unit.
