2 part clears

I am looking to use a 2 part clear on my Veilside and Kansai R32 Skylines.

I will most likely be using my Iwata Eclipse airbrush to paint with. What do you guys use to measure for the ratio's? What pressure should I spray at? How long can I leave the mixture in the brush? Should I clean up immedietly after I am done spraying each time, or when the car is completely done with being cleared?

Also at the present time my Skyline is painted with Tamiya spray TS. I don't think I should have a problem clearing over that, should I?

I'll talk about my experience with Dupont acrylic bi-component clears.

I measure the mixing ratios with syringes. I extract the needed quantities with two different syringes and mix the clear in some different clean jar.

I think you should make some tests to find the pressure that works better with your airbrush and your clear. I founded that high pressure is absolutely innecesary, I usually spray at around 12 - 15 PSI opening nearly to the max the paint flow, with slow movements.

Dupont clears have a time between coats of around 5 - 10 minutes. I have left the clear in the airbrush sometimes for 15 or 20 minutes with no problem at all.

If your clear is acrylic polimer based it shouldn't damage any kind of paint or decal. I've tried three different clears from dupont and none of them make nothing to anything that was under it.

Best thing you can do is to visit the website of the manufacturer of your clear, they usually have technical data sheets with all this detailed information.

I also own the HP-CS and I'm still using Lecher 2 part, now I'm using a cheap on called Megalack but more experienced modellers said me to try better products.

- I set up the compresor for approx 10-12 PSI: it depend also by the thinning ratio: I can't use the ratio adviced from Lecher, too thick for the Eclipse: I'm thinning much more but I had also experienced some thinner evaporation's trouble. What I'll advice is start from manufacturer info and thin until you like, and try, perform thin layer.

- I mix only colours needed for 1 hand but Lecher say that you'll leave the clear in the giare for 1 hour. I don't like do that: after cured 2 part isn't easy to remove, also with solvent.

- I know some people just hate that but I like to remove gaskets and put my iwata on a nitro hot solvent (toluene) for... well for the time needed to remember i've an airbrush sweeming in the nitro :D

You can find syringes in any pharmacy, I suppose. If you are going to buy some 2 parts clear I would recommend Dupont 3200s with Xk205 hardener.
