car length differences?

i bought a 88 hatch the other day. standard edition. good daily driver n such bu the body was beat to hell and spray painted multi colors. no biggy. i got a decent 7 piece body kit for $100. its made for the 88-91 civic/crx. it lined up right for his 91 hatch but the side are too short on my 88? doesnt make any sense to me...anyone have any ideas?

If I remember right I think the side skirts for a CRX are shorter than a hatchback. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I have a '88 and '91 hatchback and the sides are the same.
