300zx(N/A) or Integra (GSR)

I really like the Nissan 300zx and I was planning on buying one soon, but one day another friend of mine said he is going to buy one also.
I didn't want to have the same car as my friend, but I really want to buy the 300zx. I also have a second choice in my mind, which is an integra.
Which car do you think is better, an Integra GSR or 300ZX without turbo? Tell me your opinion and the things that you know about them. Do not answer this question in a Nissan/ Acura fans' point of view.

Both cars are good. It's basically your choice. Just to let you know beforehand, 300zx's are expensive to maintain and repair so you should put that into consideration before you make any decisions. Personally I like the 300zx more because of its looks but then of course the GSR can carry more passengers. (unless you get the 2+2 300zx). Each car has its ups and downs.

i'd go with the integra, and i'm a nissan man. The 300zx n/a's in my opinion arnt worth the upkeep unless ur a true nissan fan (such as many :)). Plus the integ. GSR's can lay some rubber when they gotta, and lots of cheap mods for them like civics...then again you'd be a ricer...AND FOR THE LAST TIME A 300ZX ISNT RICE, ANY CAR THAT HAS A VERSION THAT CAN GIVE A SUPRA A RUN IS WORTHY TO BE ABOVE RICE!!!!

These cars arent fair to be compared...I mean one's an econo pseudo sports car and one's a bonafide sports car...

The GSR is a good car (94-on til the RSX crap) b/c it has decent power at 170HP but it has really no torque...which I love...and it's FWD...which I hate...but it does have better gas mileage, will be cheaper to maintain, insure, modify, and repair than a 300ZX NA.

But the 300ZX is a driver's car...it is meant to be pushed and since it's RWD...is more fun to drive IMHO and has torque which is always good...so it's up to you...two very different cars...

approximately how much does it takes to insure a 300zx(93+) N/A annually?
and how about the Integra GSR?

I still don't really know what torque is, can anyone tell me more about it?

In real life terms:


Torque is your low end grunt that gets your car moving...in a race between a 240sx and a Civic Si (160 lbs of torque vs. 115 lbs of torque, respectively)...the 240sx would get the jump b/c it makes low end torque which allows it to get the jump off the line and get ahead...the Si in turn has no torque essentially and is slow off the line...but makes up for it w/high end HP and VTEC...but that's another story. BTW...the 240sx wins here...

Trust me, the insurance would be very expensive if it was to be under your name. I'm 21 and I already pay a shit load for insurance on my car. I'm worried that I won't be able to handle the insurance a little later. I wish I was 25 already:(

If you really enjoy driving then go for the Z. I've owed a 98 GSR, 93 Z, and now have a 92 Z (Both NA's). While the GSR can keep up pretty well with the Z (up til about 100-110), the Z handles much better than the Integra, especially at high speeds (not saying that the GSR doesn't handle well, because it does). The Z is overall a much more fun car to drive. As long as you find a Z that hasn't been beat up, you won't be looking at high service costs. Just watch for the 60k service... do it yourself and you will save about 7 hours of labor costs. As for insurance.. I'm 20 yrs. old/single/one accident/no tickets... I was paying $2500 a year on my GSR. Compare that with the $1800 a year I pay on my 92 Z, and $2400 I would have paid on a 93 NSX! The reasoning is that GSR's are stolen so much for their engines, so the insurance companies really take advantage. If you can hold out and find a good Z, do it... it'll pay off in the long run.

What do you mean by the 60k service?

The 60k service involves changing the timing belt, water pump, alternator, etc. Some people I've talked to have paid up to $1800 for this service, although most do not pay that much. If you feel confident enough to do it yourself, it'll save you the labor charges. You can get all the parts you need from courtesy nissan for a little over $500. TT.net has detailed instructions on how to do it. I'm only about 7k away from it with my Z, so I plan on doing it myself when the time comes. It may seem expensive, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Of course, you could always find a Z that's already had the 60k done....

It should be done every 60k. You run the chance of ruining the engine (pistons, cams, etc. start hitting each other) if the timing belt breaks. All cars have these types of services, so it's not anything limited to the Z. In addition, it keeps the car running trouble-free, so it should not be skipped.
