Gas Mileage?

Hi! I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage all of you LS owners are getting out there. I've got a 2002 LS V8 (~18,500 miles) which is getting around 14.8 miles per gallon. This is all in-town driving with the A/C on (it's been 100+ degrees for the last month here in Kansas). I know that both the A/C and in-town driving hurt the mpg, but I was hoping that it'd do a bit better than that.

What are your driving habits? Do you accelerate aggressively from stops, or just ease up to speed? Do you accelerate into, through, and/or out of corners, or coast through them? Do you make an effort to catch green lights, or accelerate to the red light, then wait for it to turn green?

All of these driving habits can greatly affect fuel economy, and unless you are driving exactly the same as someone else, it's apples to oranges to try to compare your fuel economy with someone elses.

I get around 13 mpg if I drive aggresively in town, or 15 if I drive reasonably, even with the air on. On the highway, with the A/C on, I can get 27 mpg. I've watched the exhaust air/fuel ratio and O2SCC so I'm comfortable the fuel management system is doing what it should.

You can check out the EPA fuel economy website to see how the EPA fuel economy ratings are calculated. Other than creating a standard to compare relative numbers from one car to another, they do not reflect what I would consider any real-world situation.

Also keep in mind if you are going off what your car said cause if you look at it. You mpg will drop if your at a light not going anywhere. And the longer your not moving the farther your mpg drops.

I drive very reasonably, and am not very aggressive at all (that's what the Chevelle is for :grinyes:). I bought my LS more for the luxury and ride than the HP.

I calculate the MPG myself as the information center on the car tends to be off by about 0.6 mpg.

I know that comparing my mileage to someone else's differs due to driving habits, but there is still an average range and the point of my post was to establish that range from other LS drivers.

All in all, I guess 15 mpg with the A/C on isn't that bad for a V8. :p

Here are my numbers (make your own conversions!)
City: 15-16 L/100km (normal driving)
Highway (110 km/h): 9.4L/100km or 10.2 with A/C
Of course, this varies depending on the season.

Weird I get 21.2 normally, 22.4 on long trips? How you drive has alot to do with it.
