so i'm trying to get my car started so i can take it to get body work done but its not srarting.. basically when i turn the ignition, i hear something turning and the rpms go nuts, like up to 8000.. but the engine doesn't turn over or anything.. i checked the fuses and they're all ok.. i'm sorta worried that the starter is blown but i have no idea.. any possible solutions??

if anybody needs a better description, i'll take a video of it

My starter went out few months ago, it wouldn't make any sound when i turned the key. Maybe its your ignitor.. the little piece on your coil...I hope it aint that cause those little things are $$$$

yeah take a vid

the sound comes from the engine bay though, not inside..

maybe the sound is the fan turning on, or your starter.. damn where the hell is everyone lol

its not the fan, i didn't put one back on yet. its a clicking/winding sound.. i'll have to wait for tomorrow to take a video.. and i think most people are asleep by now. its pretty damn late.. at least it is here..

this might be a no-brainer.... but ive gotten a clicking noise sometimes when my car wont start and the battery just needed to be recharged.. but my rpms never went up and i never got a winding sound or anything.. sorry man im stumped too

nope its not the battery. trust me i've checked all the no-brainers. i'm gonna look at the grounds today and see if i ever had anything wired wrong.

any other ideas??

sounds exactly like a broken timing chain. no compression so the starter can turn the engine over as fast as it wants...if you fix it, take your head in and make sure your valves arent bent and your pistons arent fucked up.

that wouldn't make much sense, since i drove it on july 2nd, parked it and that was it.. the first time i tried to turn it over it did the same thing as its doing now.. i think its electrical but we'll see.. i'll take some of it apart and see whats goin on.. the timing chain isn't that hard to change i'm sure, considering i just swapped in the new engine

well the engine is def. turning over and its not the starter spinning, since the rpm is based off the ignition timing. hmmmm now that i think of it, actually then i bet its lack of compression but the timing chain is still intact...you might want to tear into the head to make sure, but if the chain was broken, the cams wouldnt spin, thus the rpm wouldnt do anything...could be something like the alignment dowel that keeps the sprockets lined with the cams are broken... these are just educated guesses but hopefully it will help lead you in the right direction...

also, check to see if all your spark plugs are intact and in the motor...

this is the deal.. i parked it on july 2nd, and it was fine. i tried to start it the other day and it woudn't turn over at all.. i think its electrical but no idea what it could be.. basically it just stopped wanting to turn over

Some plug or whatever prolly came off or something?

from sounds if its not the chain. since your tach is driven by the dizzy i would check that. i dunno why it wouldnt turn over tho. when i blew my dizzy out it still turned over.

I think Slideways... is on to something here. BTW, did you drive it on July 2nd with no fan? How far did you drive it. Why would you drive it with no fan? Maybe you thought everything was ok and it really wasn't. Not trying to start anything but your car. Just asking.

thats the wierdest thing ive ever seen, the tach going all crazy like that. You sir have a race KA that revs to 8k, it wont turn over because you need a better starter to turn over your race engine..lol. J/K. I would post in a different forum that has more users.

check compression, then get back to me.
otherwise, as stated before, your RPM is taken directly from your ignition timing. so somehow your ignition timing isnt directly connected to the rest of your engine...
