exhaust on the 4.3 engine

This question is for the 4.3 owners in a way im part s10 for the motor and part silverado guy i guess?? anyway i dont get great response for this question on the silverado forum because Im one a few people with a 4.3 on a silverado and i want to get some solid input. what do you guys run on your trucks for exhaust Im not sure on what I should get there is just so many brands and versions of the brand out there I just want to get the right one and does anyone have any good sound clips?? of what you have or like????

most guys here run raven series, i had a flow pro single in duel out and it was a nice deep tone that wasn't ear pearcingly louad

:1: I'd agree with doug that about everyone here has a Ravin series muffler. I ended up putting one on my 2.2L s-10pu and it does sound nice. i'll have to dig up the clips more make more when I get the truck back into 1 piece. Unfortantly Ravin is no longer manufactured, you might find some at a Midas, they're going under the name Vortex now, but don't sound quite as good.

My friend has Ravin on his s10 and I don't think it sounded to good. Another 1 of my friends has a sonoma with a 4.3 and he did dual 2 1/4" pipe back to cherry bombs then to 2.5" tips. Sounds really good, deep tone and it's cheaper than other exhaust.

hell i put a flowmaster 40 series on my 93, single in/single out and it sounds great. nice deep rumble. i've been asked several times if i have a v8 in it.

According to what I have read on the best set up for power, Gibson makes it, if you are looking at a catback system. It is a quieter exhaust -- louder than stock -- but does not fill the cabin with noise It basically is a single exhaust (you can actually lose horsepower if you make it breathe too easily like with dual Flows, for example) which consists of a 2.5 inch pipe into a free-flowing muffler with a 3" tip. The whole package comes in a box and it took me only a couple of hours to install. Could have done it more quickly, but I broke a stud on the cat and had to drill it out and install a bolt and nut.

If you want more noise, there are systems out there that make more noise than this system, but they could be robbing your power. The engine can only pass so much air and you do need some back pressure...

Ok, My truck "Stomper"
is a 89 GMC S15 with a 4.3ltr I added headers and flowmasters and it sounds good. I'm also running all 2 3/4" pipe all the way.

Its got a definet head turner exhaust on it. It rumbles like my 350 in my other S10.

Did you weld anything???

Also I used to have a 92 S10, 5sp and I put dual 2.5" straight pipes back to 3" tips. It sounded good but sometimes it could have been to much. I wouldn't go with gibson, my friend had that on his sonoma before he went with cherry bombs and it was to quiet and at times it sounded like an import more that a truck with some muscle.

The main thing for me was not to rob horsepower for noise. If you like a noisier exhaust, then go with another system, but in Mini-Truck mag, the exhaust that Gibson offered was word-for-word the right system for power, and you can bet, being an engineer, I read before I buy.

By the way, my truck sounds like anything but an import. It has a nice deep V-6 rumble which sometimes sets off car alarms without being noisy inside. Not sure what 97 SLE is talking about...

so you bought a whole cat back setup??? im just looking to upgrade my muffler and i think it has to be welded on

Yes, I bought the whole system. It has to be installed as it comes in the package to give you the most in performance. It has dyno info in the box and also a sheet with CARB numbers, required here in Calif. Of course if you want performance you could go with a designed header system. I live in over-regulated Calif. so everything I buy has to have CARB numbers on it. Back when I put this on, there wasn't much that was available, but it fit what the engineers described as the best system, so I went for it.

If I were you and looking to just replace the muffler, the second alternative is to go with a single Flowmaster or something of the sort. Dual Flows will rob horsepower. The Chevy engine would have to be highly modified to be able to pass enough air to feed duals. In fact with only 4.3 liter, it would most likely be impossible.
