Dear all:

I am conducting an academic study on SUVs for a research class. I would be greatly appreciative if you could take a few minutes to share your thoughts on the following:

Name TWO SUVs that you LIKE and explain why.

Name ONE SUV that you DISLIKE and explain why.

Please email your responses to [email protected].

I am most appreciative of your time and help!

Many thanks,
Angela

I'm not going to take the time to email my responce to you, but I will post them in this fourm.

Top on my list! 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee! I had one for some time and loved every aspect of it. Nice seats, interior, and looked awesome. Loved the way it drove and how it handled on and off road.

Second best would be a 90's 4 Runner. Little less of an interior, but mostly for the same reasons.

Ones that I hate! Any that have BMW, Lexus, H2, H3, or Porsche! These are designed for the road, not for the trail. Sadly they must be DESTROYED!

A Porsche Cayenne can still hit the trail very nicely, as can an H2 hit the trail moderately nicely.

2 I like are Range Rover (It's got character) and Hummer H1

2 I dislike are Tahoe and Expedition.

I like the Infinity FX45 (style, handling) and the Acura RDX (turbo, style)

I most dislike any street driven Hummer. Too big, dangerous, for big egos.

Ha I was actually thinking about that video when I replied. Its an overpriced, gas guzzling, status symbol. People are full of themselves.

I like: H1 and the Jeep Wrangler. Both have great off-road capabilities and that's all I really care about if I'm buying and SUV.

I dislike: The H2...for all the same reasons mentioned above, including the video.

Like: Jeep cherokee & Land Rover Discovery (the older ones) both are examples of what an SUV should be, raw go-anywhere capability.

Dislike: Chevy Suburban. It's a 'road SUV' and is unnecessiarily large. It also lacks a diesel engine option which would make it much more economical, not to mention more powerful.

hate:any suv that has a 6" lift kit on it and 36" tires on it and is clean.

I am really not a fan of SUV's, I don't see myself buying one. I know the H1 is a beast off road though. I know a 92 pathfinder is good offroad, a 99 4runner is ok, a 03 Jeep grand cherokee limited is surprisingly good for its massive weight and the wrangler is very good as well. The old military h1 pulled more than one of those out of a hole already though

2 I like

1) Jeep Cherokee - because it actually is a SUV with true off-road capabilities, and without the price tag of a Rover

2) Toyota Highlander Hybrid - Ok I know it's not a real SUV, but its the perfect SUV for 90% of SUV buyers...It seats 7, is extremely fuel effecient, reliable, and will handle the poor weather conditions most people come up agains

SUV I do not like

Ford Explorer - It is exactly what 90% of SUV buyers do not need. Its too big, too fuel effecient, and has been historically much too unsafe for everyone. It was the model for gas guzzling, ineffeciency and stupidity that was the SUV age in the mid-late 90's and part of the 2000's.

My favorites are Range Rovers. I've had a couple of the classic ones (currently have a '95 Classic LWB). Great offroad, great around town.

As for H2s, that video has been passed around a lot. BUT, I can find video or pictures of things breaking on ANY car used as intended, especially some well loved exotics. The problem that people who sit around armchair-quarterbacking the H2 have usually centers around the twin facts that the H2was designed to be more comfortable inside than the H1, and that most buyers won't use them for actual offroading. That does not negate the fact that the H2 was in fact designed from the ground up to go where there are no roads. if you think it's just a glorified Tahoe wiht a different skin, youre grossly mistaken. 70% of the chassis is all new and specific to the H2, and much of the suspension is specific to it as well, with the rest being GMT800 2500 series HD parts, which are not found under the Tahoe.

I dont' want an H2, but I'm not going to say it can't do what it most certainly can just because I don't necesarily like a visible segment of the owners.

I HATE cadillac Escalades, I just don't see why caddy should make SUVs or why rich rappers should drive them with spinners that cost more than my frickin college tuition.

I don't generally like SUVs.

Like - VW Touareg. 12cylinders (in the W12 ofcourse), luxury, and OK Offroad capabilities.

Dislike - Ford SUV's. All. I would fear for my life in one. Did you guys know that Ford forbid Volvo to state how safe their roof's on the XC90 are, because that would make the Explorer look dangerous? Seriously..

Hate. (really, really hate) - H2, H3, Escalade.
