I PMed Igor about 2 weeks ago, but he hasnt gotten back to me. I want to be a moderator for the Cougar section. I guess i'll just keep waiting for the response. Any good advice?

To be a mod you have to be useful, like always giving advice, helping out and all that.. You also got to not break any or many rules in the guidelines. Also since Igor hasnt responded i'd try to talk to TS, he seems to be doing alot lately.

And not asking to be one, so I wouldn't advise asking any more. If you have the knowledge to help people out, you will get noticed. Pointing out threads/situations that need a mods attention can also get you noticed.

If they want you to be a mod you'll most likely know, otherwise people who have asked in the past were told the same, not to ask. I always wanted to be one in the Viper forum but yeah, I wouldn't have the time, not to mention that's basically a dead forum in there anyways.

Not asking is one of the main things. To remedy the problem of people constantly begging to be made a mod, a rule was instituted a long time ago, basically anybody that asks to be a mod gets put on the "never gonna be a mod" list.

Plus if you have been banned before you mostly likely wont be considered for becoming a moderator.

I'd imagine you probably have to be on the board a lot. Isn't it once you fill out all those little stars that you become a mod - after 2000 posts?? :icon16:
Forget being a mod, that's too much responsibility. I'd just like to be one of those COOL bastards who've got all purple stars and a catch phrase under their name. :naughty:
Oh, and I'd also like to have special powers preventing me from being banned. :p

If you have what it takes to be a mod you will be noticed and steps will be taken.
Just because you're on here often doesn't make you mod material.

I understand completly. But dont moderators "moderate" and advisors advise? I would be good at enforcing the rules etc.

You have to be able to prove, prove that you have the responsibility to become a mod, not just say it. You have to be able to enforce the rules and deal with people fairly, and especially know how to deal with people who are invariably not going to like you and abuse you.
Stop worrying about wanting to become a mod, and just try instead to postwhore less and be a contributing member of AF to help improve this site in every way possible.

i think step one to becoming mod material is to learn that these forums are not chatrooms.
Toksin

Exactly. Postwhoring != mod material.

Another thing that you would have to do is quit post whoring, thread jacking, and derailing like you did in this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=603630
Things like starting two identical threads that violate the rules and getting banned count against you too:

I ended the fight on the first thread even thought hat kid kept arguing, and on the second two threads i appologised and was already talked to another mod and asked if i should delete them. I was told i will be informed if they need to be deleted, and i wasnt informed to do so. I have made mistakes, but they are nowhere neer as bad as some others i've seen. I think the first thread you say i "derailed" i was only trying to stop this kid from making me look like a fool. i was just complimenting the persons chop.

i have administrated huge forums, non of car related, and its not a fun job. you might think banning someone is fun, but the fun goes away after the 3rd or 4th person u ban

^ i'm not wanting to be a mod so i can ban people left and right. i want to make the forum a better place. i usually surf all over the forum and see inapropriate posts that usually arnt seen by other mods. I just want to be able to make the forum more "streamline" and smoother. thats all.

streamline?
really?
the way you randomly respond to posts, with posts of your own that do not add to the discussion, leads me to believe otherwise.

^ I'm merely participating in the discussion. I like to crack a joke every now and then, but hey, that livens this place up a bit. you know what i mean.

Ok, this thread is going no where.
G-boy, there is only one way you are ever going to be made a mod.
I accept Paypal and International money orders.
