I just got some Sparco EVO seats...
I would like to get some 4 or 5 point harnesses for the seats. My question is: What do I connect the harnesses to? Is there some kind of bar that has to be bought inorder for the harness to be attached to?
Sorry, these are my 1st racing seats I have ever bought! I used to be a stocker guy only.
Thanks for the help
Ben

From my understanding you should never install harnesses like that without having a real roll cage. The reason is that if you rolled over for whatever reason, the stock seatbelts would let you maneuver your head so that if the roof crushes you won't get killed. Those harnesses keep your head still so if the roof crushes so does your head. It's your decision obviously, but it's a legitimate safety issue.

Yeah, definetly need the rollcage. They attach to the bar that runs behind both front seats, up from the stock mounts, and one up the center off the seat itself.

I probably wouldn't go with the 5 point unless you want that strap in your balls all the time. I drove a sprint car with the 5 points and its definitely uncomfortable.

Does anyone else here actually run even a 4 point harness? I would think it would be more annoying than a stock seat belt IMO.

Is ok to run stock seat belt, on racing seat ?.

^ It's okay, but harnesses keep you more strapped in. Plus it would look kind of weird having seats made for harnesses, but still using the OEM belts, hehe. :) I don't find the belts annoying much at all, especially if you have pads. So soft :D

I would go for harnesses over the stock belt because I think they look cool (well and they keep you strapped in too, but they look cooler). But then again I'm kind of weird like that sometimes. :)

i have 4 point harness seatbelts and ricaro racing seats, and they definetly look cooler than stock. i like the way they look through the windshield too, the straps hanging down over the seat(lol weird i know but its sooo cool). one of my friends, who isnt really into cars, think they are ridiculous. fat people hate the seats cuz they absolutely HUG my skinny ass, but are uncomfortable for bigger people. its a pain to get in the back seat. all these disadvantages though i think are nothing compared to the advantages. i thinkthey are good for a moderate to highly modded car because of increased g-forces(turning, accelerating, braking, staying still in the seat), but not for a stock to mildly modded lower hp car, as i think they are pointless and overkill because.
the bottom part of the belts are bolted under the seats. i have the top of the belts strapped all the way back to the strut bar in the trunk.

Hey, MTCS, i didnt see all your mods lol. yeah get some harnesses i think you would be happy getting them. just remember, when you sit in the car, shut the door and THEN put the harness on, as you will be strapped in too tight to reach to close the door. and if you are like me, you'll resort to trying to kick the door to try and get it to close, because you would be too bull-headed to take the harness off after its already on. lol:rolleyes:

If you ask me, I think racing seats look cool as hell, but they sound like wayyyy to much trouble. Plus, the regular seatbelts are plenty.

yeah, a friend of mine has them in his car, they look cool as hell, but the seats aren't that confortable (we drove 2 hours in one sitting) and the belts do look cool, but not fun to get in and out of. i wouldnt get them... i'm just going to get my OEM seats re-upulstered (s/p) with black leather...:2cents:

get some super duper japanese racing seat covers with dragons and flashy colors on them. they add 30 horsepower and also help you drive better. get the matching padded seatbelt covers and you get 10 more hp and less skin irritation! when you get some more money after those heavy mods, start modding the dash and under the dash with neon lights (japanese nekoi tokyo, of course) and performance stickers such as apc, nos, holley, msd, and fancy stripes and flames, and thats ANOTHER 20 HORSEPOWER!
lol...just kidding.
but seriously, do that.

I know... But I'm pretty confident that it can be done correctly with the right methods... If it all turns out as well as I hope then it'll become a writeup. lol
