When we bought this car (2002 Lincoln LS) I thought the back glass was just dirty. (the car was a smokers car before) Anyway after we bought the car I went to clean the back window and to my suprise it looks like the actual window is foggy. It' kinda looks like an orange peel look to it if you look really close. I felt both sides of the glass and it's compleatly smoth. I don't know what to do now. I would hate to buy a hold new back glass because of this. Are there any known problems with this? Thanks Brian

What are the chances there used to be window tint on the window and what you are seeing is just the tint adhesive that did not get cleaned off? You may test this theory by using a rag you don't much care about along with some lighter fluid/isopropyl alcohol/acetone/laquer thinner/brake cleaner/throttle body cleaner to see if you can clean a spot off. Start in an area where the defroster and antenna lines don't exist. However, I've used just about all of the above (one at a time) and none have attacked the orginal defroster grids.
Or, you may want to try a razor blade on a flat area without the grids to see if that cuts through whatever is on the window. Razor blades will however quickly destroy the defroster and antenna grids.

^ yes, be careful w/ the blade. But the other ideas work well as stated.

Thanks for the hint but I should have said I tried lighter fluid. There may be window tint adhesive that wasn't scraped off all the way and then they retinted it before removing the old adhesive first. IDK You can't feel anything on the glass it smooth as.....well you know glass. lol

yep thats what I think is so weird. It's only on the back window. You have to look real close to see the orange peel texture. But like I said it's smooth as glass.

I think I will try the razor blade on a piece of glass that doesn't have defroster just to make sure it's not some kind of adhesive thats super strong and talerant to lighter fluid. IDK
