I am now the proud owner of a new Altima 3.5 SE 2006. :grinno::grinno: I have a couple of questions I am hoping you car buffs will be able to answer for me.
1) Is it possible to change the dashboard lights to a different color? Are they LED?
2) Nissan themselfs couldnt even answer this question, silly as it seems to be a simple one. What size speakers are in this car, all the way around? This is not one equipped w/ Bose.
3) Cold Air Intakes.... how much horse power can I expect to gain? Does wrapping the fuel lines in A/C insulation actually keep the fuel cooler increasing gas milage and a HP or two? Any other small do-it-yourself maintenance I can do to help w/ HP or better Gas Milage?
4) Are you guys aware of any problems w/ this year and model? I know the 2.5's had some engine problems. Also, this is my 1st Nissan, how are they as far as reliability, comparable to a Honda or Toyota?
Thanks!!!!!

1) The Dashboard lights and guages can be changed, you can eaither get just the faceplate or backgound. Or you can get the lights as well, in LED or neon.
2) I looked them up and just as i thought, they are 6.5 inch round speakers throughout the whole car.
3) On this type of car a cold air intake can add up to 30HP! Now that's the cold air intake. a regular aftermarket intake can usually give you about 12 to 15HP. I've never heard of cooling the fuel lines but it does sound like it would work.
Anyway to get the best gas mileage out your car I would also suggest getting a whole exhaust kit. That includes the headers that come from the engine out to the muffler. Bigger tubing means that there is not so much pressure built up in the engine. The exhaust usually runs from about $400 to $900. The exhaust just lets your breathe better. A Nissan is right next to Chevy up there in reliabilty. I own wo nissans and they are strong as ever. Later:smokin:

1. Yes, you can change the color of the instrument lights to pretty much any color. If they are LED, you can of course get different bulbs. If not, you can use the film that DJ's put on their lights to filter the light.
3. Don't expect any gains from an intake. The topic is very well covered over on maxima.org (the maxima has the same 3.5) and you can expect, at most, 1-2 hp, all in the top end. Intakes are mostly for sound.
4. Unfortunately, there have been problems with the VQ35DE using excessive oil once you get to the 60-70k mileage range, probably due to poor rings in the cylinders. Other than that, it should be fairly reliable, but don't expect Honda or Toyota quality.

What rings would you recommend for a 2.4l in my car?

As far as I know the problem is specific to the VQ35DE, so you shouldn't have to worry about it a whole lot.
