Replace springs with struts?

I have a 2001 Grand Prix GTP with 100k miles. I feel every bump in the road and I'm looking at getting KYB struts. My question is, should I replace the springs as well? I don't necessarily want lowering springs. All I want is a smoother ride. Any suggestions?

The springs are good for way over 100K miles so it is hard to say. But it would not hurt to check things like the spring height against specs. The new struts alone will make a big difference. Make sure the upper strut mounts/load bearing and other bushings are in good shape. The KYB GR2 is a good strut.

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions for a good place/brand to buy mounts/bearings if I need them?

You're welcome.

Basically, there are only two strut mounts that work good with KYBs. The stock GM OEM and the KYB. Since you have 100K miles it would be a good idea to replace them but I would go with the KYBs. I was able to reuse my stock mounts when I installed my GR2s but that was back at 65K miles.

The KYB mounts are pricey around $50 - $60. I've seen them on EBay in addition to the on-line auto parts stores. Whatever you do do not get the Monroe brand. Too many problems.

Also, make sure the upper strut mount load bearing has plenty of good quality silicone grease. Good luck!
