Real quick & simple question...

Can someone please explain to me exactly how a bad throttle position sensor can damage your engine (detailed if possible) . I have that problem with my Prelude but am in the process of getting it fixed and am curious to know what it can cause. I would really appreciate it and thanks for your time.
