Headlight replacement

Today, I changed the bulbs in my 1997's headlights......
But I cant get the lights to mount back up right.
Those of you who have done it before will know what I mean by the following:
Theres two screw type things, one towards the center of the truck, one towards the outside. These have to go in holes, then theres a torx head screw that tightens them up.
The upper ones go back in the hole where they are supposed to go, but they dont tighten up, so the headlights point down.
But I cant get the lights to mount back up right.

You didn't say what year your truck is, but you may have to replace your headlamp adjusters. They are just plastic clips and the strip out when they are old.The new ones come with the screws attached. the old ones should pull right out with a pliers and the new ones snap in.

Heres a thought. Dump your 97 front end and convert it to 98+.I think it looks alot better andI think you get more light out of the newer stile lights too. Just a thought

Not enough money to do that, and no real interest in doing it either.
The problem Im having is that the place where the adjuster screws into is stripped, so it doesnt grab the thread and take it in.
Anything I can do, other than get a new headlight mounting plate? (Is that the proper term, or what is it called? The thing that the headlight assembly attaches to.)

It will align back up, get a flashlight and line it up properly.
You are just rushing it and not being thorough enough.

Its stripped.......theres no thread left inside the hole, its basically smooth metal.
I tried getting them in there for over two hours today, will not go.

If it's completely stripped you may be able to put a small bolt with a washer through from the back then a nylon bushed locknut. Then another lock nut on backwards for the headlight to rest on and then finally a third one to hold it in place.(with washers) You have to use locknuts or the vibration will loosen it. PS, I don't have a 97 so I don't know exactly what it looks like.
