1982 Chev Diesel 1/2 Ton Pick-Up with Cherry Bomb Mufflers

I purchased the above vehicle that has a modified short box and fenders with a cedar wooden floor in the box. The seat is a 60/40 from a 1994 chev. The diesel is a 6.2 litre.
I installed the Cherry Bombs to quieten the straight through exhaust. The truck is in excellent condition for its age and only has 103,000 miles on it.

I bought it as a toy. The old saying " boys don't change...their toys just get bigger " applies in my case. My wife and I are in our early sixties and after working all those years this is the first "toy" I have ever bought. I want to work on the vehicle etc and plan on driving it only during the good weather. I am in Southern Ontario, Canada and we use lots of sand and salt during our winters.

I am looking for help in finding the best method to help deaden the sound in the cab without going to a greater muffler system. My wife likes the truck, however I know she would like riding in it even more if the cab noise could be reduced more than what it is. At the same time I'm looking for the best type of undercoating I could put on by myself to prevent any further rusting of the underbody components after I remove the slight amount of surface rust on the components.

Congrats on the new truck. First of all, how thick is the exhaust pipe? It may be to restrictive. Secondly, to effectively deaden the cab I would recomend using something like Dynamat, or hushmat. You can find sound deadeners at your local audio shop, or online. Here is a link to Dynamat, while dynamat is the most expensive deadener, it certainly is the best.

I would use sheets of deadener inside the truck. As for the undercarraige, I get a spray on dadener. They make undercarriage sprays that are sound deadening. Good luck, I hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask us.
