I know very little about the TA's but I am starting to get into them. I was just wondering what the differences are between the ws6 and a non ws6? Thanks

The only differences are hood, wheels, and springs. The hood does not make any difference in power though, you can do a simple mod and cut the bottom of the airbox and get the same power. The only thing you should think about when deciding between ws6 and non ws6 is if you want the hood.

As stated above the WS6 had ram air hood, less restrictive exhaust system, springs (Not sure of), 17" rims (275mm wide vs. 245mm wide), and I believe a beefier front sway bar. Luos can elaborate more.

Front and rear sway bars I believe.
The main difference is roughly $3,000.

more of that $3k goes towards appearance differences than performance upgrades...but of course i'm gonna say that  i just wish a regular trans am had a name instead of "non-ws6", like the maros have both z28 and SS. makes me :(

Yep in 20-30 years I think us WS6 owners will have a little more cha-ching value for our cars :grinyes:
Hopefully I can keep mine that long. I see that there is an increase in value of the WS6 already, and I might have a potential buyer for $17K. Dunno though.
Watch it go up $10 in 5 years. I'd be heated :banghead:

You can get thm all day long for about $600. Aftermarket, but they look the same. Hell I have an original WS6 and I bought a WS9 outlaw raptor hood to replace the original. This was the day I picked it up fromgetting the new paintjob with the gunmetal on the hood, top halo, mirrors, and top of the wing. There were some fitment issuses but they are resolved now.

the nostrils on the side are a little different but it still looks sharp. even for $600 worth of mods tho you can shave tenths of a second off in your 1/4 mile time which is what my preference would be over appearance.

It is about 2 inches taller than a stock ram air hood and has the firehawk heat extractors. As for performance, I have some of that also...:grinyes:

Mines called a Trans AM WS7, wich supposedly back in 1982 the only difference between the ws6 and ws7's was the fact that the ws7 has drum rear, ws6 has disk rear.
Im pretty sure mines a recaro edition because the vin number, as well as the little plate riveted in front of the radiator says it is. According to a site i joined up with dedicated to recaros, they did make some recaros with rear drum brakes, simply because they ran out of the disk rear axles that year.
My interior (excluding the dash) was replaced with a 1984 Camaro's, and the suspension was replaced with a 87' GTA except the disk rear axle, before i ever owned it. So i never saw the car in original form. It was also painted solid black with hot pink trim when i got it, and badged with the GTA emblems, but as we all know GTA wasnt heard of back in 82. The previous owner told me the car was owned by a local pro race car drivers wife before he bought it.
I also found that when i stripped the body for a new coat of paint, it was originally black and gold like recaros, wich further made me believe i just happened upon a recaro by accident. They painted right over the gold paint but still to this day when you open the doors you can see the gold paint inside the door jam.
What this story teaches is the fact that on a used car you never know what you have until you learn its history. Its not what it WAS, its what it IS that counts. After I got it I again changed the interior and suspension, engine, and basically everything but the actual shell of the car. Right now its a 87 GTA(minus rear disk) with a 1970 chevelle engine. Thats what it is, it makes no nevermind what it started out as.

All manuals had 3.42's there were no options. The auto's did have an option of 3.23's which most were made that way but there are a few out there with 2.73's and those came with steel driveshafts instead of alum ones.

A Z06 was a serious consideration recently.
Decided to drop in a stroker instead. Just a love affair with the T/A I guess.
Nice ride though!!!
Congrats!!
My roommate has a 2002 Z06....SOB is running 13 flat here at Bandimere (5800 feet) with an air filter and Bassani catback. Nothing else...even on the stock tires.
Equates to roughly a 11.9-12.1 at sea level.

Man, I loved my TA, but I hav to say that the vettes are FAR superior in comfort and ride. I couldn't believe how much nicer they are and I had full suspension on my TA. Soon the vette should have about 470+rwhp in a 3000lb car, that should be fun.:grinyes: Still have the NX wet kit also to go on top of that too.

yeah, the ws.6 has better suspension, sideskirts, raised spoiler, 17'' rims, i believe 245mm tires all around. As far as the hood, it's ram air forced induction which is about 15 horespwer more, and like 99% of ws.6's have t-tops. I've actually seen them without, very rare. but the ws.6 performance package basically has all of the extra mods and are usually 6 speed manuals.

As far as the hood, it's ram air forced induction which is about 15 horespwer more, and like 99% of ws.6's have t-tops. I've actually seen them without, very rare. but the ws.6 performance package basically has all of the extra mods and are usually 6 speed manuals.
The regular TA has the same spoiler, sideskirts, and 17" rims. The hood isn't worth 15hp. Cutting the bottomof the airbox is better than a ram air hood by far.The airbox is a little taller on the WS6 though.
