desire vs. drive

man am I in a slump. I haven't built a kit in about 2 years, I have started about 3 or 4, but lose steam about halfway through the engine detail. I have tried to do a box stock kit, but I open it, and start seeing all the missing details and get frustrated and put it back in the box.

I blame it on my real car, really. it's alot more fun to mod a real car because you can take it out and play with it when you are done!!! haha

any suggestions on how to get out of this slump? I really need a fairly simple, nicely detailed kit that really doesn't need alot of effort to have a really top notch build. again, any suggestions?

Find a car you absolutely love. Me, I didn't build for a while. Then I found a Veilside R32 and an old-school Celica. Went to work. I am on my 3rd kit this summer, which is the fastest I have worked on kits in a while. We all have had slumps. I used to have painting slumps, where my jobs came out like siht! I have since then learned better techniques on how to get smoother jobs and such...now I am cookin!

Don't worry about "lack of detail". Build because you love to build. The kits come with specific parts for a reason. If you want to add, do it. I do not find it completely necesary to put hours and hours on parts that didn't come with the kit. Build a kit OOB. It worked for me.

I used to have slumps too. What I recommend is start a wip and follow along on other people's projects also. The incentives and input from other modelers is excellent and very helpful for seeing a model to the finish. If it wasnt for this forum and the great people here, I wouldnt be into modelling at all.

so I think I'll take your advice and go with this Tamiya celica gt4 it's simple enough, I can do some mild tweaks and make it an outstanding car. well I'm off to clear my desk of R/C crap, and do my first kit in my new home. hopefully, I can find my camera, and do a progress thread. since I'm gonna be broke for a while, I should have plenty of oprotunity to build.....if I can get away from this damn rot box!!!

I have the desire to build my models but not much drive, if I get around to posting photos on here because I'm either excited about a new model I've started or at an end with one I've half built I don't get enough motivation from here to make the situation any better. Right now I have 2 models I am stuck into, one for my old man for fathers day and the other for a chicks 16th in october, I have roughly a dozen kits that I'm building for myself but can't motivate myself enough to finish them.

OH YEAH!!!!! I forgot all about that!!!!! I'll try to find what little I have done, and try to get some more progress on that. unfortunately, my father in law passed away just as I was getting in to that, and all I have done are the valve cover and the front cover for the head. they do look good, I'll have to say, and not to toot my own horn. now here's my next dillemma, the wife has austed my paints from coming in the house. she thinks that they are going to catch fire.... I know what you are going to say. I too have been building models for 20+ years, and never once have I ever seen or heard of anyone's paints catching fire, or what ever. and I'm sure I'm not the only one that smokes while building models (building, not painting).

well I found my celica, it's not the GT4 but the 2000GT. I'm going to use some pegasus blade wheels on it, and I'll be starting a progress thread on it as soon as I get something noteworthy accomplished. so far I have the body smoothed out of flashing, and found that I won't need to do any suspension mods to make the wheels fit the way I want them to.
