Those are for older carburated engines. Helps to bring fresh air in to the filter which normally rests directly on top of the intake manifold.

how come i see them like on new mustangs

Its called a "shaker scoop" because it is attached to the engine and as the engine revs it shakes with it. Anyway i dont think you could get that scoop to work with your bird (it would take alot of modding to get it to do anything other than looks)

well there is this one on crigslist and the guy say its not a shaker scoop it a hood scoop u hook ur air intake up to but i dont see how u do that

They're for carburated engines, will not work on fuel injection, unless it's a TBI engine. Fuel injected engines aren't designed with air filters of that sort.


99% of the ones on Mustangs are non-function. Which means the scoops are only there for cosmetic purposes, they don't bring in any air to the engine at all. But there are some scoops on Mustangs that do bring in air to the engines air filter, such as this kind:

Notice has it has ducting to bring air down to the filter.

That hood is merely just for looks

yeah, now that its all fuel injected..the only reason to pretty much get a hood scoop is for looks... you can get the same gains with a cold air intake.. maybe even more, since it might be less restricting (less bends all over trying to route the damn air..)
