Haven't seen a thread for this yet. Who's going?

I'm making the 12 hour drive friday, and staying at the Norwalk EconoLodge (affectionately known as the sausage lodge. This aint no NOPI event...). I'll be running the EVO in EVO Stock Appearing.

Anyone else?

I really wish I could go....especially now that I have an Eclipse worth taking...but now my tranny is giving me problems so I dont trust the 3 day drive over there from California....but hopefully next year I can make it....

I know it was you that posted the video from last year...was it you that made it or one of your friends...I dont remember....but do you know if you will have another one to post this year....that video is so inspiring...

It's at least 12 hours for me, up to 15 depending on how things go. But that's just part of the experience. :)

Shit, if I was to drive one of my cars up there, I'd leave at least 2 days early just to give myself some room for breakdowns and what ever else may come along the way.

Hmmmm, sounds like a good reason for a cross country time trial. Kinda like a cannonball run. Someday in my Evo I want to do one of those, I dont trust the DSM.

I'm staying at the Econolodge, but hanging out at the best western. I'm actually there now using them for thier wireless network. My friend Bill built his motor in the parking lot last night, if you were around. It's going into the car right in front of me, as we speak :D Heroic effort, I really hope the car runs well (has done 10.4 in the past).

I'm rockin black tshirt with a red mitsu logo on the back today, white evo with mass plates. If anyone is out here, stop and say hello.

Edit> Had some fun on the way out. Got a flat a few hundred miles into it, and had to go the rest of the way on the spare. Luckil Bill was still in Mass picking up his shortblock, so he could grab my set of advans and toss them on the trailer. There was no room, so they rode out in his engine bay :D Just got them swapped in, so I can stll race :)

This has to be the best equiped hotel parking lot in history :D Engine stands, hoists, compressor and air tools, lights, a tent now to keep the sun out, lots of beerz, everything imagineable.... Awesome. :D

can you take any pics of the lot and stuff?

I look forward to when I'm a bit older and have some money to go to this.

There have to be a shitload of pics and videos around. There was one guy taking very deliberate and specific video shots like he planned on making a real video of it. I didn't get any pics all weekend with everything going on, but as they come up I'll post links to them.

My car ran like complete shit. Mid 12s at 110 all day. Slower than my pump gas times from last weekend. The car gets looked into thursday. I may be taking this shitbox to the next level sooner than later...

Any idea whats wrong?

kjewer1
08-15-2006, 06:34 PM
Nope. AFR was right on, timing was normal (I tried two different timing maps that I've run in the past), no knock, airflow was maxed, boost was typical, driving was typical (going to the track once a week for 6 years makes me pretty consistent ;)), etc. I really have no explanation. I'm going to check compression, and make some more passes with the nitrous on. If I still run 11.5 with the noz there is definitely something wrong, and since my no noz best is 12.0, that would put me in 11.0 range if I figure this out. If I run 12.0 with the nitrous on something changed since last weekend. I swapped out lifters, changed tires, and changed fluids, no other changes made to the car.

were intake temps higher than normal? elevation change from where you normally run?

Weather was almost identical to last weekend at NOPI. According to this site, (http://www.schnitzracing.com/Tracks/ohio.htm) NRP is at 852 feet. My local track is 90 feet. Not much of a difference, and no one else in the local club was running any slower than normal. :dunno:

AWESOME! Someone posted pics of the overnight motor buildup. (http://newengdsm.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12713) I'm in a couple of them. Bottom left of the second pic with the motor on the stand, and under the hood in the black shirt in the 4th pic.

This car broke a shifter cable on the 3-4 but still knocked out an 11.1 at 117. Could have been a 10 second pass, on a motor built outside at the Best Western. Unreal. Something I will never forget. :)

Edit> Update post from Bill, finally :D (http://newengdsm.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12695) If this (long story short) description of the last weeks events doesn't help to portray the massive effort that went into this project, nothing will. What an awesome weekend...
