Tamiya also makes an open top military Land Rover in 1/35 scale, although it make take some effort to demilitarize it.

It's exactly how they looked, mostly when used for desert service.
If Tamiya had decided to make this model would you still think they were retarded?

If you know your generations, you'd know the Tamiya kit is a 1950-1960's variant

The headlights got moved from the center grille area in the 70's. The whole front fascia became flat later.

Try this page - http://www.accurate-armour.com/showaaproducts.cfm?CFID=565181&CFTOKEN=61390770&category=14&subcategory=173
They have a large variety of 1/35 110 rovers (all very expensive)but I think the one your looking for is a series 2a GS hardtop.

Other than that, I can see that JB models make both a hard and soft top series 3, corgi do a 1/43 Die cast hard top, you can get plans for 110 4x4 and 6x6's from here http://www.sandlehobbies.com/reference/mousehouse/mhouseplans.html or you could search through this http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~lloyd/4/LandRover/Toys/#Land-Rover page to find the closest match to your brothers car.

right, the first one is an SAS one used during the golf war, it is a landrover defender, think of it as a convertible. they were known as "pink panthers".
second pic shows the 80s-onwards landrover defender.
the third is a willy's jeep. of no connection to landrovers.
the thing's so boxy you could scratchbuild it from sheet anyway.

Actually it was used in WW2 by the SAS and not the Gulf War.

For some of AF's younger members, the Gulf War 1 is about as far in the past as the WW2....

The 'Pink Panther' also known as the 'pinkie' was first used by the SAS in the Second World War but the concept stayed onto the first gulf war aswell.
