Quick defenition of rice.

This can sum up what a ricer is quite simply.
http://wscs.serveftp.org/polygon/pics/garfield.jpg
It is too bad that the thread with the ricer argument guide had to be closed. It was meant to be a joke and some people took it too far. Just because we call something rice does not mean we are talking about all Japanese cars. Some people take things too personally; they must have something eating at them.
This thread is not to flame, simply post what you think the definition of a ricer is. I guess it is more of an opinion than a definition.

I think the definition of rice is modifications made to a car, to make it look fast(spoilers, type r badge, vtec badge, cutting springs), which do not make it faster. In fact, many modifications such as giant wings create large amounts of drag, and sap away top end performance. Cutting springs will have a bad effect on your handling, by lowering your spring rates, changing your suspension geometry, and can destroy the balance of your car.
Going to low profile tire, lowering the car with high rate springs, and getting a body kit designed to produce downforce, not to look good, will make for a better handling car.
Cutting springs, going to a 50 lb deck lid wing, and going to 17" pep boys tires will not do much for your car, except slow it down and make it less driveable.

i mean i see Ricey Neons all the time... y do ppl waste money on Neons..?

Well, neons have a bigger and more powerful base engine than the most powerful civic engine (save the si). I don't know how lucrative the aftermarket market (does that make sense?) for the neon is though.

lol, let me clarify
To me there are a few cars
1.musclecars
2.rice
3.lowriders
4.Stock
5.Sports Cars
Your car I would consider Rice, but not as an insult, to me how you kept it mostly stock it looks beautiful, and its a true marvle of machinery to start with.
A lil 80's history
Rice started when a car came out with a really wide air damn, it was a japanese car (I forget which, ask DMC12), people started saying its a rice burner and the airdam is where it scooped the rice from the patty fields.

lol,
yeah, I think "rice" has taken on a whole new meaning since the 80's with the whole honda civic craze over the past few years. I wouldn't classify your car as rice seeing as how even if you did want to be distastefull and add stickers, at least you would have the power to back them up.

Rice used to refer to all Japanese cars, but not anymore. Now, a ricer is someone who modifies his car but doesn't do anything to actually improve it. For example, installing a body kit and lowering it 2 inches and putting 19" rims on it makes it rice. Rice isn't necesarrily Japanese, I've seen Cavalier rice and even Mustang rice.
On the other hand Japanese cars aren't necessarily rice. For example my Integra has rims and exhaust and tint but it also has mods which actually do improve engine and handling, therefore I wouldn't classify it as rice. (I don't have a big wing or any stickers.)
By the way it was really unnecessary to close my thread, especially before I got a chance to reply, I wanted to apologize for starting a domestic vs imports argument as that wasn't my intention at all. I really don't think you should close threads because you think they're "going nowhere", that's tantamount to the cops arresting someone for a crime they THINK he's going to commit.

The problem with these import vs domestic threads is they always turn to crap.

i rarely visit this theread but i have to put my input.
i own a somewhat muscle car its a 91 Cougar Ls 5.0 ive seen cars like mine being bastardized by Ricers they have added wings, useless rims,Melonlauchers tips and graphics that actually belong to imports whats really funny is they get out run by "Coyotes"(sneaky bastards like me who mod cars(mainly engines) that dont look fast) their engines are the stock 5.0 V8 or V6 i still out run them on a semi stock engine the only mods done to my engine is actual 91 Mustang parts like the injectors, intake plennum, and heads. i plan on upgradding to headers and modding the exhaust and maybe a 2 inch front and a 1 inch lowering job in the rear(this is known as the Detroit Lean).
i didnt add funky graphics or stickers to my car because its not an import. its a Euro Designed car and i plan on following on the Euro Design i plan n doing some decroming so that my car is almost entirely black the only thing left Chrome on the entire car will be the grille trim the teeth will be cut off and the other parts left in color will be the Aluminum Mercury grand marquis wheels on some fat rubber. i want my car to look like an interceptor(yes i like Mad Max) all black little chrome but im not adding any goofy stickers i want my car to look and go fast.
if you look at some of the dedicated Import Tuners they always start Engine First. its not how good your car looks its how fast can it go
belive me every car culture has its own version of "Rice"
Hotrods, whats Rice in this culture:NASCAR
Lowriders, whats Rice in this culture:wannabes Just the wheels nothing else
Imports, whats Rice in this culture:posers (read in thread)
Trucks, whats Rice in this culture:Mexican look trucks(if you seen these then you know what i mean)
Kustoms, whats Rice in this culture: cars that ride in trailers AKA Trailer queens
feel free to add your own
all american: apple pie
you got it wrong its Field Cars or Cracker Rockets

While 800 hp is fairly respectable, Nascar has so many restrictions on their cars now, like 4 speed trannies, steel wheels, restrictor plates... They could be a lot faster than they are.
Besides, what's 800 hp to a hotrodder?

I'd say what makes NASCAR the hot rodding version of rice is all of the political squabbling amongst the makes for parity and all of the dodgy policies NASCAR has about giving the fans what they want to see (ie. Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Daytona last year, you can't tell me that race wasn't rigged) At least Formula 1's politics are interesting and involve actual debates, not a frickin' 1/4 inch of airdam.
Besides, what's wrong with a sticker or two on your front quarter panel if you're using the parts. The NISMO stickers I see on S13's with SR20DETs are, I'd think, the import rodding equivalent of a Clay Cams "Mr. Horsepower" (the woodpecker with the cigar, folks) or a Rat Fink.
I miss Ed Roth..... I met him once, he was a great guy and possibly the weirdest customizer ever. (Mysterion, Beatnik Bandit, Outlaw, Tweedie Pie)
