Low Coolant light

My Low coolant light is on and I would like to try and diagnosis the sensor before buying another one (this would be my third one). Does anyone know how the sensor works? I.E is it powered or does it look for a difference in resistance? When I check for continuity on the plug between the two terminals it looks like a dead short. (I have continuity between terminals with car turned off, did not check it with power because I didn’t know what to expect) Not an electrical engineer, but would not think I would see continuity between the two pins, but things are sometimes not what you think they should be. It’s hard to believe that two of those sensors would go so quickly. The newest sensor lasted about 2 months and was a pain to change so I don’t want to pull it out again if it’s the wiring. Any help would be great.

i think it is on the passenger side of the radiator. Its a 3" square gray sensor sticking into the radiator held on by thin metal wire clips. Make sure the sensor didnt fall off. Ours did a couple years ago when the plastic tabs on the sensor broke. I had to rotate the sensor around so the metal clips could bite on the plastic tabs

I don't have any info on the electical specs of the low coolant sensor. However, for what its worth, I had the low coolant light going on and off for some time and then it stayed on after I had the radiator flushed. I asked the mechanic about it. He said there is sometimes a buildup of crud on the end of the sensor and this can give a false reading. Sure enough, after taking it out and cleaning it thoroughly it seems to be working properly now.

Thanks davidson I'll get my bucket out tonight and start the dirty work of flushing that radiator. Do you know how to loosen the drain cock on the bottom? It's has a wired cam surface on it. When I put a socket in it, it just cams right out of the square. If I was tighting it, it would work great? I think they try to make it tapper proof, or I'm just a tard and can't figure it out.
