I had a new ac compressor and evaporator core replaced, cool air in the front but hot in the rear.is it a expansion valve?

yes, it's your rear expansion valve, those are a pain to replace though. Sometimes when you fix the back the front gets plugged up so make sure you do a thorough flush before you put everything back.
