2002-2003 Maxima headlights vulnerable to theft?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on buying a 2002-2003 SE 6spd, but more and more people that live near me are telling me that the headlights are easily stolen, and they often are. They also say that my best bet is to buy 2000-2001 lights. Can anyone comment on this? I live in Brooklyn, NY so maybe its different for those who live in less populated areas...

Thanks,
Mike

Apparently it is in your area. Someone who knows a lot of people in NYC with Maximas told me so.

I have no such worries in my area, but if you have a garage, I'd use it.

There's a fix that you can get at the dealership called DATA DOTS I believe, where they add some additional countermeasures for theft. They can, however, still be stolen, and they require more effort to get out, which has resulted in damaged fenders, hoods, etc...But I think that theft of the HID's had curtailed in the last few years.

To second what thrasher said, I haven't heard of any thefts lately, but i am in the southeast.

POLICE REPORT

Burglars make big haul of auto parts

Burglars stole more than $6,000 worth of parts from two cars at a Davie automobile dealership.
A burglar disconnected both xenon high-intensity headlights from a Weston resident's 2002 Nissan Maxima at Rick Case Honda, 15700 Rick Case Honda Way, between 6 p.m. Aug. 28 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 29.
The repair department manager said the department was closed but the garage door was still open after the car was serviced.
Replacement cost of the headlight assemblies was estimated at $1,448.
During the same period, someone broke the passenger-side window of a Davie man's Acura RSX Type S parked at the repair department.
The burglar removed both black leather car seats and the air bags.
The loss was estimated at $5,000.

the theft of these light rarely happen any more most Nissan's Maxima's already have been updated to the data dots and the updated brackets.

The way you can tell if the Dat Dot kit is installed , is there are either stickers on the lights on the corner or on the front windows
