I have a Buick Park Avenue and when you shift out of park the doors lock, same as the Lumina. When you shift back into park the Park Avenue doors unlock, whereas the Lumina do not. Is there just a way to completely disable the lock mechanism of the car for when you put in in any gear from park? I keep forgetting when I stop that the car doors are still locked.

there probalby is a way. I was unaware that lumina's ever locked the doors when shifting out or park. Mine doesnt. However, yours is a function of the BCM (body controll module) you may have to take it to a dealer or a mechanic witht the tech 2 scan tool and have it set accordingly.

The automatic locks on your car are a federally mandated safety requirement, and cannot be easily user disabled. There may be a way to do it, but it's not in any factory manual or proceedure that I know of.

could they may not be working properly since they lock but dont unlock? I thought they should unlock when put back into park or when the car is turned off?

It's most likely a relay, ground or reciever (if equipped with factory keyless entry) issue. These cars were notorious for power lock issues.

If its a '93 and it has that feature, its not factory (IIRC). Aftermarket alarm?

This car doesn't have factory remote. My buick does and works well. I've never checked to see if this car could "take" one or not.
All I know is when ever you pull out of "PARK" it locks and stays that way until you unlock it manually. Buick "unlocks" when put back in PARK.

My 91 Grand Prix (sister car to the Lumina) had factory keyless entry, so I'm suprised that the Lumina didn't offer it (although it was a dealer installed option with a Goodwrench logo on the key fob) until 95, but the GM computer backs what Manny says.

Richtazz - I hate to say this, but.... Lumina was the unwanted stepchild of the W-body family :shakehead

My ('93) door locks have a mind of their own. Sometimes they lock, sometimes they don't. They have NEVER unlocked on their own. I believe the owner's manual mentions this feature somewhere, but I thought that the doors were supposed to lock when the car hit 5mph. I could be wrong. The locks on my '99 don't lock automatically. If you're really annoyed with your doors locking but not unlocking, the only option seems to be to pull the fuse for power locks. Then you get manuel locks....fun!!!!
