Castrol Super Clean

Can someone explain to me how the Castrol Super Clean works. I bought it today and used it on the body of my ITR to get the enamel paint off and it didnt work. I heard it did work, so can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. It doesn't make sense that it works because in the back, it claims that it won't harm any painted surface.

leave the body soaking in CSC for about a day or so.. then use toothbrush to "rub" the paint off....

don't throw away the CSC cuz it's reusable

you sure its enamel paint you used? I know that CSC won't harm automotive laquer or paints, but plain model enamel will dissolve in it, just leave it submerged for a few hours. I think it's basically the same stuff as brake cleaner or denatured alcohol, so it's non petroleum based. It also *sometimes* does a good job of stripping acrylic, i don't know how.

That's right about it being reusable too. I just pour it through coffee filters into 2L plastic pop bottles and store for re-use.

CSC is basically just sodium hydroxide (think drain cleaner, or lye) and by its nature it's a very slippery substance. It works by getting inbetween the plastic and the paint coat. Oftentimes the paint coat will "slide" right off the model thanks to the slippery NaOH. It probably doesn't work on automotive lacquers since it was formulated to clean engine bays and not strip off your car's paint..

I have used CSC to remove automotive paints. Twice. :( It may be working against the odds because I used Tamiya primer undernreath.

The only paint that I haven't been able to get off with CSC and scrubbing alone was som Gunze spray black... :o

Hey thanx for your tips and comments guys. Well i still have the CSC and I'll definitly try what u guys said next time. I wasn't too patient last night, so I used Easy-Off Oven Cleaner(recommend on this site) and it worked great. I sprayed it on heavily and allowed it to soak for 2 hours. Then I used hot water and a toothbrush to get the paint off. It worked great but there was still some paint residue in the crevices so i resprayed it. Then I let the oven cleaner do its work over night and in the morning, I again used hot water and the toothbrush to get off the paint residue. I also used a toothpick to scratch out the paint that was stuck in the engine bay of the ITR. (It was a pain in the butt with all that wiring and details). But I still got the job done.
Note* I realized that the oven cleaner even strips the putty. So i wasn't too happy about all the putty work that I did to the body but oh well. U win some, u lose some.

Hey guys, im new, but i need help.... im buildin an ITR revell, and i messed up on the paint job,. i wanna stripp the paint but i dont know how... TELL!!
