A flowmaster exhaust. A K&N Filtercharger. A turbo kit.

Possibilities are endless!

my biggest obsticale with upgrading the truck is that i am short on funds..... so i need something i can do fairly cheaply just to add some power and/or gas mileage......

Ummmmm

Just get the K&N Filtercharger for it. If that's too much then there is not much else.

You'll get more w/ headers as oppose to just just replacing the muffler. Bigger exhaust pipe will usually create a decrease as you're messing with the back pressure. Intake should help some. If it's a 2.3L, turbo is more practical by just swapping in a 2.3T from the junk yard. They have harder internals, and you can get everything you need for the swap. Turbo is probably going to be the best route without digging into the internals of the engine, but still going to be somewhat difficult.

Usually adding power doesn't go hand and hand with better fuel mileage. To get more power, the engine must have a greater demand for air (cam/stroking), or some third party physically putting it there (blower/turbo). Since it's EFI, you can reasonably increase the air and the ECC will compensate the injector timing, but there's only so far it's been developed to compensate for.

do these parts seem like they should do at least a little bit......
American Thunder Exhaust System, Full Flowmaster Tone, Most Aggressive And Highest Performance, 2.25" Inlet, 2.25" Outlet, Single Side Exit, 50 Series SUV/Performance Muffler, With Hardware

PAINTED HEDDER, EXHAUST HEADER -- Tube Size 1.5", Stock Collector, Without Smog Injection Or Injection Heads, Tubular Exhaust Manifold System, 16 Gauge Tubing, With Y-Pipe To Single Cat Converter, Includes Parts Necessary To Retain Emission Devices (50 States), 50 State Legal

then adding a new filter and the charger, plus the cold air intake......
