3.1 engine tick

I haven't started my Beretta in about a month and just got it fired up the other day, seems to idle fine and all but there is a very steady tick coming from the engine. Could one of the valves be stuck since it hasn't been run in awhile? I didn't notice this tick before I stopped driving the car, but that doesn't mean it wasn't happening. I still haven't driven the car, but I let it run a good 30-40 mins, revved it up to about 2500rpms and held it there for a few mins, but the ticking still persisted, I was hoping that lubing the engine up may have stopped the ticking but it didn't seem to help. Any thoughts?

Small exhaust leaks can often sound like a metallic tick. Don't overlook them.

I've thought about that but the rythym of the tick is too constant to be an exhaust leak I think.

3.1's are a zero-lash engine, and are infamous for developing lifter and valvetrain ticks. It is possible one of your lifters hasn't pumped back up or is stuck due to the engine not being run in a while. I suggest changing that nasty dirty oil, as it could have moisture in it from setting, and put in an oil detergent additive ( like CD-2 or Gunk oil detergent, DO NOT use Engine FLUSH ) to help free up the possibly sticking lifter. Blue is possibly correct also. Exhaust leaks can cause a very metallic sounding tick, and it will increase/decrease in intensity as well as frequency, as engine RPM changes.
